Walking the Brooklyn Bridge
 

I would like to walk the Brooklyn Bridge in
our next visit to New York.
Although this walk is suggested in Fodor 's
Travel book it is not clear to me where is located
the "entrance" to the walking path neither in the
Manhattan end nor in the Brooklyn end.
I shall appreciate any suggestions including
any other activity related with the walk, like
any exploring or any place to stop for a bite on
either end.

The walkway is in the median of the road that goes over the bridge. On the Manhattan side, if you're on the northeast side of City Hall Park, it's basically across the street and will look pretty obvious once you're there. (If you're taking the subway, the last station on the 6 (Brooklyn Bridge / City Hall) is right there. The 4 & 5 subways also stop at the station.) It is a nice walk across the bridge.

Thank you so much. Exactly what I needed to know. DO you know if there is a place for a decent lunch at the Brooklyn end? I am taking our grandchildren and hopefully we can take the subway or bus back to Manhattan.

On the Brooklyn side of the bridge, there's the famous (and very good, but not the best I've ever eaten!) Grimaldi's Pizza. And for after lunch, Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory, or chocolates at Jacques Torres (or, if its winter, to-die-for "wicked" hot chocolate)

I agree. I've gone to Grimaldi's with a few friends that have come to visit and they've really enjoyed it. It's not the best pizza I've had in New York either, but you're bound to work up an appetite walking the bridge and this place sure hits the spot!

if you take the subway to Brooklyn, there are signs directing you to the bridge. Walk from Brooklyn to Manhattan for better views

Agree with bigtyke, it's better to take the subway from Manhattan to Brooklyn, have lunch, maybe some ice cream at the Brooklyn ice cream factory, walk the Brooklyn Promenade and then walk back to Manhattan so the skyline is in front of you.

Thank you Mclaurie and Bigtyke it makes sense to walk from Brooklyn to Manhattan. I guess we shall do that., someone mentioned Rebar for lunch in 147 Front street,in B. has one way tried it>?

It is just 10 days ago that we did walk Brooklyn Bridge - it is one of the best NYC experiences, really stunning! In any case, you should walk from Brooklyn to Manhattan. It is very easy: You take subway A or C to High Street. From the subway station, follow the signs to Brooklyn Bridge. These signs will lead you to a staircase under a ramp which goes up onto the walkway. Just a few hundred feet from the High Street subway station and clearly marked. You cannot miss it. On the Manhattan side, the walkway drops gently to surface level, close to City Hall. There you can enter the subway again, either at City Hall station or at Chambers Street station.
