There are several books out with specific trail guides for Oahu. I think you can probably find them on Amazon pretty easily. (Sorry, I can't recall a specific book title for you). You can hike in many many different areas on the island, with varying degrees of difficulty. Hiking up to Manoa Falls (about a 30 minute "walk), and then past the falls up to the top of the ridge (several hours) is good. The books are helpful because they include maps, amount of time for each hike, and difficulty. You can probably tailor a hike to your specific interests with one of the books.

Hi Michael.

I'm happy to be able to answer your question! We are a hiking family and did Manoa Cliffs to Konahuanui last weekend. It's a challenging hike and takes about 6 hours, but you can modify it to three hours by entering at the Manoa Cliffs trailhead and doing the Tantalus loop instead. A trail book, which you can pick up at Borders or Barnes and Noble when you arrive, is indispensible. There are many beautiful hiking trails on the ridges of the Koolaus and Waianaes which open up beautiful views over Oahu. I'm attaching the link to the Department of Land and Natural Resource Oahu State Parks with some possibilities for you to preview:

http://www.hawaii.gov/dlnr/dsp/oahu.html

We always enjoy the Makapuu lighthouse hike, especially during the winter months, when whales are breeching off-shore. Waahila Ridge is another beautiful day hike.

You'll have a wonderful time! And be sure to prepare for the Hawaii heat by carrying water, wearing a cap, etc., etc.

Aloha,
k

By the way, we'd love to visit the land down under one of these days; I may be posting some questions for you! Canadian Air just opened a direct Honolulu-Sydney route. I'm hoping they'll come out with a promotional fare!
Aloha,
k
