Walk, taxi, or subway??

In NYC I will arrive in Penn Station (no luggage) and want to get to corner of 7th Ave and 50th St. When I map it it says I can walk it in about 6 minutes, but it looks like it is quite a long way--about 20blocks?? Is the map info correct? I can do 6-10 minute walks ok (I am 73) but 20-30 minutes is more than I want to try. Thanks

Penn Station is approximately W. 33 Street and 8th Avenue = 17 street blocks and 1 Avenue. There are lots of people on street.

20 street blocks is approximately one mile.

What map is telling you it's a 6 minute WALK?? It's maybe a 6 minute car ride (taxi) with no traffic. To walk it is more like 15-20 mins. You can also take a subway ride 1 stop or a bus up 6th or 8th ave.

Walk out of Penn Station on the 8th Avenue side, north 1/block to 34th Street and hop the bus to 50th Street. Senior fare is half that of regular. Believe fares are due to increase as June 1, so before then cost is $1 "in coins"; $1.25 after.

Since the options in the orignal post were walk, taxi or subway, as local who is in and out of 34th st. station daily, I'd say the walk would be at least 20 minutes, and very busy depending on the time of day.

Taxi would be easy enough from the taxi line at 34th on 8th Avenue and probably take about 10 minutes depending on the time of day. Would proabbly run you about $6-7 on the meter.

While inside Penn Station, you could follow the signs to the 2 train (look for subway signs of big red circle with a white "2" in the centre) and take the uptown #2 to the 50th street stop, which will leave you right where you want to be in about 10 minutes.

My vote is the bus, even though it's not an option mentioned by the OP. It's much less walking than the subway, which requires you to go through tunnels, up and down steps and such.

It's a mile - which is about a 20 minute walk. It's 6 minutes only if you're jogging at speed.

You can get there easily by subway - or grab a cab for a few dollars more and avoid the various sets of stairs.
