Waipio Valley Shuttle

We are on the Big Island now and I'm trying to decide if we want to reserve for a wagon ride into Waipio Valley. Is this a scary ride for someone who is afraid of heights?

They take you into the valley in a 4WD vehicle, THEN you get in the wagon. I know the road in is very steep but SCARY?! I doubt it, in a vehicle with an experienced driver. Many people make the drive every day.

Barbara: If you can handle flying to Hawaii, a 15 minute drive down a paved road shouldn't bother you. :)

Yes the road is steep, but it's a short drive. In 20+ years I've never heard anyone say they wouldn't do it again.

No, it's not scary. And, even if it were--the scenery is so beautiful you'd forget all about your fear!

barbara.. just to make you feel better.. I have a real problem with precipitous heights. Don't let your fear stop you, though. It sounds like a worthwhile excursion! I have come a long way with this anxiety since we started visiting the islands, because there are so many literally awe-inspiring things to do which take, for me, quite a bit of daring. But i'll be a monkey's uncle if i don't give it a try. I have found myself both richly rewarded and also weeping and clinging frozen to rocks/car seats/cliffs, etc, but in the end even the tough outings left me a in better emotional condition for the next exciting adventure which presents itself! Good luck!

Mahalo for the responses. Did the Waipio Wagon Tour yesterday. Not scary at all; very interesting and fun.
