Waimea valley has changed hands a few times, it use to have rare plants and many varieties (I remember ginger). It was also the only place I know on the North Shore where time is spent on showing an authentic hula, and the life style of the early Hawaiians. Do not go to the Polynesian Cultural Center for this. I have a friend on the North Shore who thinks that the new prices are a total rip off. The park just can't seem to survive without these fees. As for the Navatek, commercial and you are traveling with a million people. You can take a giant catamaran off Waikiki for about $15 at sunset. Or go online you can swim with the dolphins for $95. on the leeward side (wild dolphins)and have an actual biologist on your boat http://www.sailhawaii.com/. There are other sailing opportunities on the island that are a bit more up close and personal. That Navatek is like this huge monster with 150 people on it. I would advise against. Go to surfinglive.com select live surf then waikiki high or low bandwith option, whatever you have, and bing bang boom you are seeing a moving live picture of Waikiki. The best I have found. Today I saw one of the Catamarans parked up on the beach before taking out a group. If you right click your mouse and select full screen you have the image fill your screen.

I would not look for boats that claim to show fish via submarine or anything else in Waikiki. That ocean has been used and abused and the marine life reflects this. There are also sail charters and you can go as an individual or small group in Kaneohe (sp) north of Lanikai but on the windward side. Be sure to see Byodo temple on Windward side beautiful!!! Enjoy
