Wailea or Kaanapali?
I have found great deals on condos in either place. We stayed in Kaanapali ( Sheraton) and really liked it, but I'm wondering if the beach is better for snorkeling/beauty in Wailea? Thanks for the help!!

Snorkeling at Black Rock (Sheraton) can be very good all day long. In our experience snorkeling in Wailea can be just as good however afternoon winds can make the waters cloudy with sand. I believe you may enjoy snorkeling in Wailea as well as in Kaanapali. :S-

We stayed in Wailea; we had a great beach and the snorkeling was good there as well.

I think the views from Wailea are nicer- more tranquil, with less tourism boat traffic - (less of the noise associated with parasailing/jetski/motorboating)

I had the same experience as JohnD with snorkeling being good in the morning at Wailea but with afternoon winds causing lower visibility in the water. However, that's a minor drawback compared to the beauty of the landscape and beaches there. Both Kaanapali and Wailea are gorgeous places for a vacation but the latter is a little quieter with less of the "hustle-bustle" of the former.

Wailea/Makena

Kids or no kids? If with kids, I'd opt for Kaanapali, for exactly the reasons noted -- more activity, livelier, stuff to do and places they can go on their own.

Thanks for the replies! We're traveling with our older teens and ( I think) at least one of their friends.
|
Well, for teens I would recommend Kaanapali. They will find many more people their age there compared to Wailea. And a much livelier night scene.

It sounds like Wailea would be ideal for me and my husband, but not so much for the kids! Thanks, everyone!
