Wailea: nice, clean moderately priced place?

Hi,
I have been trying to decide whether or not to have a very small destination wedding in either Maui and Kauai..several of you gave me advice in some posts (thank you) and i think i have decided to have the wedding in Maui and the honeymoon in Kauai!
I am very interested in having the ceremony at the Four Seasons..we want something simple and we have been quite impressed with the coordinator so far. With that, I would like any recommendations for some hotels or condos that are clean, not TOO dated and moderately priced...if they exist that is! I have heard that Kihei is not very appealing but that seems to be the only place close to Wailea that has reasonable priced accomodations! Help!
thank you so much by the way. I have ALL the guide books, but your postings are invaluable to my trip planning.
thank you again!

There's really nothing wrong with Kihei...just not upscale like Wailea. Check out Maui Coast hotel...I stayed there a couple of years ago for 1 or 2 nights while waiting until I could get into a condo and it was fine. Clean, basic hotel and not too expensive (at least then.)Also, Kihei has tons of condos that meet your requirements.
Good luck

Hi Becca, when I used Priceline last spring to book the Hyatt in Maui, there were also Wailea properties avaliable like the Renaissance and the Maui Prince. They were both selling for about 140-160/night. Just a quick thought on the 4Seasons weddings, they are very expensive!!! You can have a beautiful ceremony in Maui or Kauai for a lot less if you do a lot of the planning yourself. do a search on this board for weddings and see what you find.

Check out Aloha Pualani . com.........I am excited to visit this property as it seems very intimate, original and fun.....will give a report upon my return, just thought it might be perfect for your needs. Really just opened within weeks so there are no reviews, the pictures speak for themselves. Best wishes

I'd recommend Hale Hui Kai on the Wailea/Kihei border. It is an older condo, extremely well-kept, with three stories and about 30 units. It is very well managed and offers garden view, side ocean, and ocean view units. We've stayed there several times and attended a wedding in one of the beach front units this summer. It's located on Keawakapu Beach which is beautiful and generally not as crowded as some of the other Wailea beaches that front the big hotels. It's a great little spot with lots of aloha and the manager is very helpful with choosing units; I'd definitely go with some ocean view on the honeymoon!

Check out www.mauihawaiicondo.com for a great rental in Wailea (Grand Champions Villas) at Kihei prices. Prices, photos etc. on the site.
