I've been starting to look at hotels for our trip this summer. Whatever you decide, you will probably get the best rate using the Marriott Rewards rate code "M11." If you don't have a Marriott rewards account, you can get one free on-line. The rates should be $75-$110 lower than Marriott's "Leisure Rates" or rates you will see on a 3rd party site.

Other Marriott rate codes that may work in Hawaii ar "PKG" "P74" "s4b"

iceeu2- We stayed at the Renaissance a few months ago. What we loved the most about it was its gorgeous grounds. The beach was nice there as well, with free loungers. The pool is very small, but has plenty of seating. If a great pool is important, don't stay here. Maui Onion is their outdoor lunch restaurant and has "too die for" onion rings, as well as great sandwiches. As far as the rooms go,ours was roomy with nice amenities. Since this hotel is due to be demolished, I doubt the rooms have been updated, but they were comfortable and roomy. We had a nice patio overlooking the grounds and ocean beyond that.
The Marriott was a short walk away, and it is a huge hotel.I don't know anything about it though, and didn't get a chance to see the pool there.

jd, a great pool is NOT important. A nice clean room is very important. Was it clean and up to date? Or out of date and dingy and yukky?

iceeu2- The rooms were definitely clean. I think housekeeping did a great job everyday. The room fine, but not totally what I would call up to date. There was a sitting area with a couch and chair done in white wicker with cushions in a green/gold print. The slider had white wooden shutters. The bedding was not plush -no down comforters and feather beds. The comforter was pretty ugly, done in a gold/yellow/teal plaid, with a teal bedskirt. No down blanket either, however there was triple sheeting, and the comfort of the bed was fine.
The bathroom was a good size with double vanity.Tile floor looked somewhat worn, but was clean.
