Waikiki- Royal Hawaiian vs. Outrigger
 

We're staying two nights in Waikiki on our way back from Kauai on our honeymoon during early October. We've narrowed down our hotel search to the Royal Hawaiian and the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach. We're looking for advice and pros/cons regarding these two. Thanks.

They are both fine hotels. Royal Hawaiian is more "classy" if that is what you are looking for. It is the 2nd oldest hotel on Waikiki Beach. You will enjoy either hotel.

Friend who lives on Oahu says the ocean rooms of the Royal Hawaiian are the nicest rooms in Waikiki.

Royal Hawaiian is nice....but me favorite place in Waikiki is the oldest hotel in Waikiki, the Sheraton Moana. Have you looked at this hotel? The Royal is slower but it is also more formal and with a lot of empty spaces. A lot of people love that, I found that a bit sterile.

I like the busy quality of the Moana, and just love the rockers out front. They now have nice rockers facing the ocean too. My first choice.

Stayed at both and I love the Royal Hawaiian for all that it is..Old school Hawaii with the Moorish design and the lush gardens.. Honeymoon perfect!
Outrigger is great too but RH is a must.

Not all the rooms at the Royal Hawaiian have a lanai. If having one is important to you, verify that the class of room you are booking has one if you do decide to stay there.

The rooms in the oldest part of the Moana aren't all that great IMO..dark hallways, etc. BUT, the newer tower rooms are very bright.

Agree that the Moana, opened in 1901 has a lot of charm and certainly history. If you are there anywhere on Waikiki on a Sunday do not miss the Banyan verandah brunch..best in town IMO and worth every penny for the ambience alone.

Royal Hawaiian or the old Moana are definitely the most memorable hotels IMO.

How much is the brunch at the Moana, if you remember?

I think Sunday brunch at the Moana is $42.50 for adults and $21.50 for children; they seemed to have a lot of "high ticket" seafood like crab, oysters, sushi, etc.

I agree that the Moana is nice--very romantic and has the old Hawaii charm. But the room we had was very small. Very good brunch. Among the two you mentioned, I'd go with the Royal Hawaiian for its similar old Hawaiian feel.
