Waikiki Parking
We are spending 7 nights in Waikiki in Feb 2012 at the Wyndham on Lewers St. They charge $30.00 a day for parking but they said there is a public Parking lot close to there that charges $16.00 a day. Has anyone used one like that and did you have any problems with public parking.

I've never rented a car in several trips to Waikiki, but if I did I'd spring to park it right at my own hotel. For me the idea of car rental is about convenience and it would be worth the $14 extra per day to not have to hike around town and deal with a parking garage elsewhere.

Sounds like it might be cheaper to rent by the day. Are you sure you will need a car all the time? We usually only drive on a couple of days per trip.

I would either park in the hotel or ditch the car for aprt of the week. Most of the discount lots will not let you take the car in and out. If you plan to let the car sit all day, you might be better off just renting the car for the days you need it.

You can park at Hale Koa lot for $16/day minimum 3 days.
Hale Koa is just on the opposite side of Trump Tower. So about 2 blocks from Wyndham. There is an open parking lot & a parking garage at Hale Koa. http://www.halekoa.com/about_us/list...es.cfm#Parking But do rent a car the entire time & get out & see the island. |
Unless there's some extenuating circumstance, don't rent a car for the week. It would just be a hassle. Waikiki is relatively compact. The bus system is an easy and cheap way to get around there and the rest of Honolulu, and taxis aren't hard to find. Just rent a car for a day so you can drive around the island.

There is so much more you can do on Oahu with a car.
Rent it the entire time & get out & see the island. Don't waste your precious time taking buses. Taking the bus will add 1 1/2 hours (roundtrip) to USS Arizona, 1 hour to Diamond Head (roundtrip), 2 1/2 hours to National Cemetery of the Pacific. That's 5 hours just to those attractions. Explore Oahu with a car just as you would on any other island. Having a rental car is not a hassle on Oahu. A rental car will allow you to explore much of the island that you cannot by bus and cannot by renting a car for one day. When you add airport transportation, buses, cabs, tours and car rental for a day or two, it comes up to almost the same as renting a car the entire time. I think The Bus is a great system for getting around Waikiki and Honolulu. Anything further afield you WANT to have a car. Rent it for the week. Park it at your hotel. You can thank us later :-)

Thanks for all the good advice.I think we will rent a car for part of the week.
Thanks again. Warrsher |
