Waikiki Hotels
Hi! I am planning a trip to Waikiki for the end of May and am having trouble sifting through all the info on hotels there. We are looking for a place with a kitchen and a separate bedroom if possible. It is just so hard to tell what is trashy and what is clean. We'd like to stay within a block or two of the beach. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Waikiki Shores is right on the beach and very nice, but it's not inexpensive. I don't personally know about any inland properties but there are probably several along the Ala Wai canal.

Waikiki Sunset and Waikiki Banyan are two good choices, about 2 blocks from the beach. Also try www.bnb-hawaii.com.

i agree with melissa's choices, esp. the waikiki sunset. re: the banyan, last time i stayed there it was actually one big room with a partitioned-off (sliding door, no lock) bit that was called a 1-bed room. don't know if all the rooms are like that, tho.

about 15-min walk to the beach is island colony and maile sky court, i know some rooms have kitchenettes but i don't know about suite-style rooms.

just across the beach is the waikiki beach hotel with 1-2 bed apts, but is expensive.

have a great time!

http://www.captaincookresorts.com/

has the best rates I've seen for the Waikiki Shore. Capt. Cook also features many other properties in Waikiki. I haven't rented them from but I was extremely impressed with the friendlieness, patience, professionalism and courtesy of the woman who I spoke with on the phone to make some inquiries.

Want to add that the condos at the Ilikai are supposed to be a great value.

There are quite a few agencies that rent them out, including Capt. Cook.

Ilikai is Marina front most units accomodate 4, with Lanai, living room (pullout couch) & dining area combined, two beds. I think it is the best condo rental value in Waikiki. Lived on Oahu had an occasion to search each summer for family visiting the island. Book in main building (insist)(not marina annex), get the condo association number from the front desk of this 4 star hotel.

Sammy I always found the best rates at the Ilikai through the condo association. Individual owners and some agencies jack up the prices. Also if there is any kind of a problem with the unit you were assigned you can just sashay (sp) down to the 2nd floor and they will put you in another unit. Not always as easy as this if they are at full occupancy but a little easier than renting from an individual owner. Oh yes parking was always free and available when we last rented 96 (rented 1-2 months each year summer 94,95,96).
