Waikiki Holiday Parade

I'll be in Honolulu (female solo) from Thanksgiving Day until the afternoon of Monday the 1st. In my research for local events, I came across the Waikiki Parade. Is this a BIG event? If so, any suggestions on when (early or late in the day) and where I should be for viewing? Have you been? If so, is it something I should budget time for? Or, is it something to avoid (as in maybe taking that day to do the North Shore)? Thanks for any insight.

I have not been to this parade, but it is not very long. Lots of bands.

Starts in ft. DeRussy area & goes along Kalakaua Ave (main street through Waikiki) to Kapiolani Park.

Friday, Nov 28, 7pm

The parade is a very big deal to the locals. As a tourist, you would probably find the parade "quaint" in a small town kind of way. It is certainly not worth the drive from the North Shore.

Ummmmm not sure if it's a big deal to the locals, as I have never been to it. If you are Christmas shopping, you may want to take in the BIG craft fair at Neal Blaisdell Center on the day after Thanksgiving (and that weekend). by the way, Aloha Tower Marketplace is open on Thanksgiving day!

She's already in Waikiki (not the north shore).

Sounds like it's not a big enough deal to be a hassle and have to avoid. If I were there (female solo) I'd probably go, what the heck. Might be fun!

My GD went with her high school band to perform in the Waikiki Parade. There were 90 bands in the parade. Don't know what else.

I can ask her what else was in the parade.

Thanks for all of the above information. First of all, I didn't realize that it was an evening event. This is perfect as I plan on heading to the HHV to listen to the music of Olomana at 8PM or so. I'll enjoy the parade in route.

Melissa...thanks for the shopping suggestion at the craft fair and I will be stopping at the Aloha Tower Marketplace.

I've never even heard of the Waikiki Parade. Most people I know tend to stay out of Waikiki when there is a parade, unless they know someone that is in it. Too much congestion and parking hassles to attempt to see it.

However, since you're already in Waikiki, your plan to catch the parade enroute to HHV sounds nice.
