Waikiki first night
Our plane arrives in Honolulu at 6:06 pm. I am just wondering if we should make dinner reservations or there isn't enough time after checking into our hotel? How is Don Ho's Island Grill for dining with kids? I initially wanted a beachfront dining but then realized by the time we got there it would be dark!

If you are flying from the mainland (I assume you are) you might also consider that it will seem a lot later than 6pm to your body! You might be too tired to do anything other than a quick meal at your hotel, unpack, and hop into bed. IMO

Where are you staying? Maybe you can have a nice dinner in your hotel if you are not too pooped....post back and we can throw suggestions at you.

Hi guys, we are staying at the Ohana Waikiki Tower, which I believe is across the street from Outrigger Reef?

By the time you land, get your luggage, get your rental car, find your hotel, check in and drop your bags, you'll be ready to drop, too. If your plane arrives HNL on time, you'll be at your hotel by around 7:30-8PM
Within easy walking distance of your hotel you'll find a McDonald's as well as local fast food eateries (saimin, teriyaki, etc.). Save Don Ho's for the next night (your kids will love it -- oceanfront and _very_ casual tropical). |
Good hotel choice. You will be tired when you arrive. There is a good Denny's right across the street, and a real good restaurant in the lobby of the hotel. I believe it's called the Waikiki Griller, or something like that. For a quick inexpensive meal, there is a Perry's Smorgasbord about 150 feet from the hotel, on the same side of the street.

Heed the advice of the above posts. You'll be dog tired. Go to bed & start fresh the next day. Enjoy!

Where are you leaving from? If you are departing from the West Coast you shouldn't be too exhausted on arrival. Enjoy your first night in Hawaii. Don't waste a minute !

A little further down the street, you can go to another hotel for the Shore Bird Beach Broiler. A lot of my visiting friends like it because it's a semi-buffet, but you also grill your own food beachside.

Don Ho's or Big Island Steak House or Gordon Bierch in Aloha Tower are fine for kids.
