Waikiki Car Rental Help Please

We will be staying at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. Arriving Friday and want to rent a car for the weekend. Should we rent a car at the airport and avoid the taxi to the Hotel? Turn it in back at the airport or in Waikiki (this might be more expensive)?

I know Hilton has a Hertz rental car desk in the hotel but checking the site, they seen rather expensive.

Yes, we are staring late with this but there were other things to consider. Appreciate any info/suggestions.

Airport is probably cheaper but then you'd have the extra night parking charge at the Hilton garage, so probably a tossup.

My best suggestion rent it through priceline not sure what kind of car you want but, I did it for a friend of mine that will be there for Thanksgiving weekend 3 days Convertible for $92.00 total. Before you bid make sure you look around and get some rates. If you need additional help please feel free to ask I love helping people save money write back if you want help and i'll give you my email so we can work on it together good luck
Gina
P.S. it's not too late, once your there it will be you still have a choice.

Gina, you are kind. Thanks for the priceline advice. I have never used it and am a little hesitatant to do so at the last minute. I will go over and take a look. Just need a compact with AC.

Parking at the Hilton is $16. Returning at the airport would involve a taxi ride back to the hotel.

Last time I was there (a couple months ago) I picked up and dropped off at the Hertz at the Waikiki Marriott Hertz. That's a bit of a haul for you but there's an Alamo on Ala Moana not too far from the Hilton (walking distance for sure), and Alamo is usually pretty cheap. I'm sure the HHV also has at least one rental company on premises -- makes pick up and drop off a breeze.

Dollar seems to be the lest expensive and I found out they have a counter at the Hale Koa but the difference in rates is unbelievable ($64 vs. $27). If we rented in town, would only need 3 days which comes out to $193 + 40 taxi from airport + 2 nights parking $32 = $265!!

Renting at the airport would be $140 for 4 days + $40 taxi ride back to the hotel after dropping off + $48 parking = $228

My husband told me his friend got a week for $100 but couldn't tell me agency or car type but I bet his friend booked months ago.

Hmmm Should be packing.

Need to be positive I did a quick search on hotwire, here is what I got so you can see and this can get done through priceline making a bid and if I were you I would not bid more than $16.00 per day keep in mind to check the total and make sure it is less than what I will post below (i cut and pasted it from hotwire) if it is more than go to hotwire (if the price is right for you and get it with them) good luck again if you need help let me know.

here is what i got
Compact car
Honolulu, Oahu (HNL)
Counter in airport; shuttle to car
Fri, 11/10/06Pick-up
12:00PMdetails:
Mon, 11/13/06Drop-off

WOW, colombiana, are you good! So if I understand correctly your post showed what I could get on hotwire but you think I should go to Priceline and bid $16. See who has the better deal? OK.

yes, I usually use hotwire to get an idea of "good rates" if priceline once I make my bid and they add all their fees the total is more than what hotwire gave me then I just stick to hotwire. I suggest you try with priceline and see if you can get something better. Remember sometimes last minute things have an advantage and they rather sell cheaper than lose out completely do let me know how it goes have a great time.

Putting in the exact same info I put in at Dollar on Hotwire, I got:

Compact car
Honolulu, Oahu (HNL)
Counter in airport; shuttle to car
Fri, 11/10/06Pick-up
1:00PMdetails:
Mon, 11/13/06Drop-off
5:00PMdetails:
4Rental days:
$23.95Daily rate:
$95.80Subtotal:
Tax recovery
$30.02charges and fees:

$125.82Total cost

However, you have to pay for it when you make the reservation. I'm only saving $20 so don't think I will go for that. My husband need the car on Monday for business and can't turn it in until 5 incurring a 4th day rental fee.

Thanks so much for checking. If I wasn't such a chicken I'd go for the priceline. Think I'll try it another time but I do appreciate the "lesson".

FYI, my husband's friend did not get a car for $100 per week but $200 through Enterprise. I just checked them and for the same days we need a car (4 days) their rate is $90 but no cars left at the airport location - would have to pick up at Ala Moana (sorry if I spelled that wrong) location. Their description states that they will pick you up.

Avis at the Ohana East hotel has cars for around $30 a day, I think they close at 5pm which means an early return if you want to avoid that night's parking fee at your hotel.

Use AWD discount number K817625

You can return to the airport if desired. Not sure of the rates for pickup airport and return to Ohana.
