W Takes Name Off Two NYC Hotels

For informational purposes, my apologies if this has already been discussed:
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. has sold two pioneering properties within its W chain in New York to London-based St. Giles Hotels LLC for $78 million. The deal involved the W New York - The Court, and the W New York - The Tuscany. Both properties will operate under the St Giles Hotel's new contemporary brand, and are no longer be affiliated with the W Hotels brand or Starwood Hotels & Resorts.

Reservations for dates on or after April 14, 2010, at 11:59 PM will not be eligible for Starwood Preferred Guest membership benefits, award redemption or accrual,

the court and the tuscany were the ones i stayed at the most. they always used to welcome me back 'home' each time.
i hope the staff is being kept on. they are the nicest most courteous group of people.

Starwood sold off a bunch of W's. Your post is a bit confusing Margo as it also mentions the W New York. Is that one part of the deal too?

If you read Margo's post carefully, she uses the two hotels' (now former) names. The W New York isn't mentioned nor was it part of the deal.

As a regular customer of W New York - The Court, I'm not entirely surprised. The owners weren't maintaining the properties very well. The elevators, in particular, were almost always a problem.

Not sure where the confusion is, but as Eric pointed out I provided the names of the 2 hotels: the deal involved #1) W New York - The Court, and #2) the W New York - The Tuscany.

No where is the W New York (at 541 Lexington Avenue) mentioned, it remains open.

Hope that helps!

For the record, it confused me initially, too.

Well, hopefully you are no longer confused :)
