W French Quarter New Orleans
 

Has anyone stayed at the W French Quarter? We are booked to stay there, but I read so many negative reviews on Tripadvisor that I am nervous about it.

So don't stay there. A "W" is totally out of character for the French Quarter anyway. Here are some better options:

WE enjoyed the Omni Royal New Orleans Hotel.

From what I've heard from folks who work for Starwood Hotels (W's parent company), the W French Quarter is the weakest in the chain. In fact, both of the N.O. properties are fairly nondescript compared to their flashy brethren in other cities.

I highly recommend the "International House". It's close to the French Quarter, modern (like the W), but with more individual flair. They should also be more reasonable. You should be able to find it in a Google search.

I stayed there when it was the Hotel de la Poste. I agree that a W hotel does not fit in the French Quarter. I loved the Hotel de la Poste, the onsite restaurant was a Brennan's Family restaurant and the location was perfect, close to the action but not too close and close to Jackson Square. If location is important than it's a good choice, but if you're looking for something less modern maybe try somewhere else. All the places bardo 1 suggested are good choices.

Thank you for all of the replies. The reason that we are staying there is because we are using our Starwood points and it is a free stay. I have stayed at the Sheraton on Canal before, but wanted to stay in the Quarter this time, since we will only be there for a long weekend.

I'm familiar with all of the other hotels, and know that there are better choices with more local flavor, however this is not a concern of ours, since all we have to do is walk out the door to get the local feel. I was more concerned with the quality of accomodations and cleanliness there.

We stayed at the W on Canal st. in Dec. of 2003. I really enjoyed the location! The room that we were assigned to had a large balcony and I loved sitting on it late at night and early in the morning.

The room itself was small, but had many nice amenities. The Aveda bath products were wonderful. The bathroom was huge!

The beds were very comfortable with pillow top mattresses and down comforters. The front desk people were very friendly and willing to accommodate us.
I think you will enjoy your stay here.

Oh lucky us :( We have another poster/advertiser. Nolavip has written a total of 4 posts, and all are promoting the great deal offered by the Ambassador Hotel.

The jerk also posted the same ads on other sites. I hate that! He also fails to mention that you have to buy a $39.99 membership to some other "club" to get it.

There is no W on Canal. The "Canal" location is probably the W New Orleans on Poydras.

OOPS! Sorry! The W that we stayed at is on Chartres St.

The Soniat House is hard to beat - loved the location.

has anyone stayed at Historic French Quarter before? We booked it for spring break but nobody has mentioned this specific hotel in any posters/ replies - please help!

I think that using your Starwood points for the W New Orleans (outside the French Quarter) is a safe bet. The hotels in the French Quarter, although very nice, are generally smaller and more expensive. You get more value if you are willing to walk a few blocks.
