Vote for your favorite lodging in San Francisco!
My husband, 2 children (ages 18 & 13) and I are spending 3 nights San Francisco as part of a long summer road trip. I've been reading the forum constantly and have checked out several lodging options. Please give me your opinion of the following based on price, quality, safe & convenient location, parking availability & price:
Golden Gate Hotel Comfort Inn by the Bay Lombard Motor Inn Columbus Motor Inn Cow Hollow Motor Inn Coventry Motor Inn Castle Inn Argonaut Hotel |
I haven't actually stayed in these hotels, but we did have a tour of The Argonaut. It's a very nice hotel and with the age of your children, you might really like the location. The historic "F-Line" trolley will get you lots of places and you will be close to a couple spots to catch the Cable Car. It is a convenient location for Chrissy Field, the Maritime Museum, Hyde Street Pier, Fisherman's Wharf, walks along the waterfront, the obligatory Irish Coffee at the Buena Vista. We enjoy walking, so for us it is a pleasant walk from there to Washington Square, North Beach and Chinatown.
You can check Tripadvisor for the various hotel rates. www.tripadvisor.com Good luck with your selection, and have a great trip! |
My favorite is the Ritz-Carlton.

I doubt you'll find any people who have stayed at all of these places and can give you advice on which one is best. Check the reviews on Tripadvisor.com for each hotel and see what many different reviewers say.

I've stayed at the Golden Gate (10 years ago) it's important to note that it's really a B&B. It's absolutely charming and the fresh croissants each morning were so good. Price was great, room was small which you may want to consider if traveling with teens. I don't remember parking accommodations. The hotel location is great. Not in the middle of hustle & bustle but close to the trolley line. When we were there it was family run and very safe. I highly recommend, but the teens may find it a little dull.

I live here, but I put my mom up at the Argonaut Christmas 2007. She liked it; said it was "cute."
Believe me, if there had been something wrong with the hotel, I would have heard about it. Do note it's a pet-friendly establishment--in case you have issues with that kind of thing. My mom brought her Labrador. |
Not sure what kind of arrangements you are looking for, but you can get a spacious nicely furnished apartment -- up to two bedrooms and two full baths at the Cow Hollow Suites. You can access it from the Cow Hollow Motor Inn Website, but it is a completely separate facility, only joined by the free underground parking garage. There is no minimum of a number of nights. It would be great to have the big spacious living room for you to all share and then go off to your own bedrooms, even if you don't use the kitchen.
