Volcano problem in yesterday's news?

I saw the last part of a trailer on CNN that mentioned a problem in reference to one of the volcanos in Hawaii. Does anyone know what (if anything) occurred?

I didn't hear the report you refer to, so I did a search on CNN, Reuters and a few other websites and found nothing. There is a website where you can check the current status of the volcano. Here it is: http://hvo.wr.usgs.gov/kilauea/update/main.html

There was a big brush fire on the Big Island yesterday near the lava vent. Maybe that was what you saw on the news? SOmetimes sparking lava can start fires.

I was really sorry to read this. I was on the BI in November and the rain forest in the park was really beautiful. I have a trip booked to return on July 19th and will be anxious to see the difference in the terrain.

The lava frequently starts fires in VNP. Mostly they are quite small and contain themselves; sometimes they will hit a dry section of forest/brush and cause more problems, causing road closures.

We took a Blue Hawaiian helicopter tour of the BI on 5/28 and indeed, some of the gases from the volcano vents caused some brush fires.
