Vog on Big Island

How has the vog been on the big island and has it impacted the kona area? Can you still visit the volcano area? We are going to the big island in 3 weeks.
Thanks

I was talking to a friend who lives in south Kona just yesterday. He said the vog index was 1-2 recently which is pretty low.

For the Volcano area, check out the official website. http://www.nps.gov/havo

I think its best to monitor
through the governor's website on web. I like checking the federal link.

I know someone that has just been diagnosed with adult onset asthma, she lived for years in Kona. I think there are better air quality options on the big island. But don't take my word for it check out the federal link on the Govenor's vog website. It monitors patterns of vog daily.

Today they had a high VOG alert for the area around Volcano and southern areas. Hasn't been that bad in weeks and they were advising people with respiratory problems to leave the area. Hilo and Kona weren't in the alert

You can't predict the Vog, nor the winds. Just go, and play it by ear.

Sorry what is Vog? Something about volcanic activity? Never heard of it, but I live in SD which has June Gloom and May Gray.
