Visiting the Finger Lakes

I'll be in staying at the Skaneateles Suites with my husband , our baby & our dog & I am looking for suggestions on what to do, where to eat, etc. We will be there over Labor Day wknd. Thanks a bunch.

A person in this forum recommended the Bluewater Grill in Skaneatles to us. It was a big hit. We took our 10 yr. old. You could take a baby there but not the dog :(

We were south of Ithaca a few weeks ago and had a blast. I think Cornell U is a must. The campus might be too big to cover in a day though especially with a baby. If you're up for it though, they project movies on the wall of the art museum on Saturday nights.

Ithaca is a must -- the Commons, great restaurants, Cornell U. and visiting Buttermilk &/or Taughannock Falls. Try: www.visitithaca.com.

Watkins Glen State Park -- the Falls/gorge is awesome.

Visiting the wineries -- there are some really good ones on Seneca and Keuka.

Do a search on these towns and "Finger Lakes" -- you will find a lot of info!

There is an amish sort of flea market type place called Windmill on rte 14 south of Pen Yann. Interesting to see a lot of handmade items as well as bakery and other food items. Mostly indoors but some outdoor vendors as well. A good thing to do when its raining which we have had a lot of this summer.

While in Skaneateles you might want to pamper yourself at Mirbeau, a very luxurious spa. While most people stay there as guests, you can do a day treatment. And if you can get a reservation, have dinner at Rosalie's Cucina, which is one of the best Italian restaurants in Central, New York. Also, the National Women's Hall of Fame is located in nearby Seneca Falls. I'm not sure if the Skaneateles Music Festival is over yet, but it has very nice classical music.

Doug's Fish Fry is another local favorite. If the weather is nicew as expected you will really enjoy walking the small town of Skaneateles and relaxing on the grass at lakeside.

Conrell U is terrific. After visiting Cornell U and Ithaca many times as an adult, I regret not having been a student there. It is one of my favorite places, and I have traveled a good amount

I second Doug's Fish Fry...just there 2 weeks ago and the food was great. Nice outdoor tables to use if the weather is right.
