My DH is a civil war buff and we have visited many battlefields. Shiloh is definitely worth your time. It is not the most convenient to get to since it is rural but probably not more than a couple hours drive from Memphis. Lots of good barbeque and blues in Memphis, and Tunica casinos are nearby if that interests you.

Even if you are not an Elvis nut, Graceland is still worth a visit. Can't help you with what else to see.

Just another thought. check out how far Vicksburg is from memphis. I thought Vicksburg was fascinating for Civil War history, plus there's that fantastic antebellum home that was being built before the war and all construction halted for the war and the house was left empty. just a shell. Plus the battle of Vicksburg with the seige and everything is very interesting.
