Visiting Seattle Nov 4 - 8 from East Coast
 

We will be arriving in Seattle later today and be in town through Monday afternoon. We are staying at a hotel in downtown and plan to rely on public transportation or cab because we are not renting a car. This was a last minute trip so we have done very little planning or research. So I was looking for suggestions on things to do or see, places to eat or special events. Any suggestions?

We haven't seen it yet, but the current Picasso exhibit at the Seattle Art Museum is getting good reviews.

Today is going to be beautiful, and apparently half of tomorrow also, then November returns with the rain. You might want to try to get any outdoor excursions done before it gets drippy. Right now there is some excellent fall color in the parks, including the beautiful Japanese garden in the Washington Park Arboretum (easy bus ride from downtown).

Big football weekend - No. 1 Oregon v. No. Nothing Washington at Husky Stadium on Saturday, NY Giants v. Seahawks at Qwest Field on Sunday. Traffic around the UW on Saturday and the stadium district (Pioneer Square/International District) on Sunday will be tough, but it will be quite electric.

The Picasso exhibit is a great suggestions. I haven't seen it yet either, just read very favorable reviews.

I agree with most of HTTY's list. I'd probably skip the Zoo only because your trip's so short and it's outside downtown.

...are all right around the downtown core and would make for a great weekend.

Taking the bus out to a neighborhood for a meal and look around is a great idea. Madison Park/Cactus as mentioned. Or Volunteer Park on Capitol Hill and eat at Coastal Kitchen, 22 Doors, Jamjuree Thai, Olympia Pizza or any of many others along 15th Ave East.

Also on Capitol Hill some of the new restaurants we like are Pinto Thai Bistro and Panevino, on Broadway between Republican and Harrison; Boom Noodle and Barrio, at 12th Avenue and Pike; and Octo Sushi at 1621 12th Avenue.
