Visiting San Diego in spring
Hello,
We are planning to visit San Diego this March. How is the weather during that month? Looking at average temperatures, it seems nights are still chilly. Also, during the day, is the weather warm enough to visit the beaches?
We could wait till summer but fear that summer could be too hot, and high temperature could make the land look even more arid/scorched. Hopefully, it would a bit greener in spring (being from Seattle, we cant be without greenery for too long ).
Also, we have two kids of ages 3 and 6. We would appreciate any suggestions for the whole family.

March will be much too cold to go to the beach. Even if you get a warm snap, the water is freezing cold until late June. Late August/Sept are the hot months. I prefer late June in San Diego. Mornings will be cool, even overcast, and afternoons perfect. Yards will be lush and flowering. San Diego is green; it is inland So. Calififornia that is arid.

native SD and even in the August/September/October months, I can't say that the coastal area is HOT.
Inland 10 miles during the summer and Indian summer can get into the 90's but I would wait till the late summer and enjoy our gorgeous beaches.
La Jolla/Coronado/Carlsbad/Del Mar are beautiful coastal cities that have great resorts and clean beaches.
June can be at the coast, lots of fog, since the deserts are hot and the water temp is still in the 60's so it creates a marine layer that can last into the mid afternoon.
Water temps will be in the 70's.
Legoland in Carlsbad is a HUGE hit for children your age.

Thanks everyone for responses. It seems that it is better to wait till summer. We have actually been planning a trip since winter. We thought it would be warm even in winter but found out that wasnt the case so postponed it till March. Based on responses in this thread and what I have read elsewhere, we should probably delay it for another couple of months. I also read that it can be cloudy/rainy during spring.

Our kids absolutely loved Legoland - they have been asking to go back ever since we left to come back to Australia. We spent 6 months in beautiful San Diego and had to become Legoland members! We also frequented the Zoo and the Wild Animal Park, and the many museums in Balboa Park (good playground there too). They weren't so impressed by SeaWorld. They liked the Scripps Aquarium also.

Hi,
Just to be difficult. My kids are at the beach today (FEB. 17th) and yesterday it was record highs (80s) here in SD. So, really you never know. Plus, you should be aware. The water is never really warm.
PS: The arid and scorched comment was a little ridiculous...the great sunny warm weather is precisely the reason for our landscape and our popluarity as a tourist destination. Wouldn't you agree... the ENDLESS rain is what makes Seattle so green, or should I say so GRAY! You simply can't have it both ways. C'est La Vie.
