visiting new york

I will be visiting NY in oct with 8 girls. We will be celebrating 2 40th birthdays any advice how to celerbrate. Would also like to book a cruise with a meal any suggestions. Any good night spots to visit we are all round the 40 mark. The best way to see Central park. The best deals on helicopter rides.
Thanks. Lynne

Nightclub -- DECADE on First Avenue just north of 60th Street.

Central Park -- The best way to see the park is to walk. I suggest starting in the north at the Reservoir, Fifth Ave and E. 90th Street, and working your way south across the Great Lawn, Belvedere Castle, the Ramble, Bow Bridge, etc. Many good maps are available.

Cruises & helicopter rides -- I suggest a Google search. Re. cruises, many options are available on different types of boats and every budget.

Enjoy!

Good advice from Gekko. Also it may be alittle cold in Oct. visting Central park you can also take the horse and buggy ride, dress warm. The club that was suggeted is great. The cruises that are good are: Harbor Lights Cruise $20.00p/p. DJ Dance Cruise 24.00p/p & Spirit City Cruise $60.00p/p, this one last about 3 Hours. Go to Just-tours.net for more info. Have Fun, and tell the girls happy 40th from me Im turning 44 myself so Im feeling there happiness. Smile!!!

thanks for the info another question best places to buy cosmetics and how much does it cost for the horse ride in central park and do i have to book it.
is hogs and heiffers a strip joint thinking of visiting the bar.

Sephora is a chain of stores that's great for cosmetics. All the major department stores are also good. Bergdorf Goodman & Bendel's have the largest selection of upper end stuff I think. Saks is also good.

I think Hogs & Heiffers is a country western place-not a strip club. Popular "girls" thing (ie bacherette parties etc.) is an off Broadway show Naked Boys Singing (or something like that)

Meals on cruises tend to be not very good. Have a cruise & dine elsewhere. The River Cafe in Brooklyn has awesome views 7 very good food. Nice celebration place.

Agree not to eat on the boat - the food on those cruises in mediocre at best (I have been on a couple of upper crusty charter cruises - and they rent the boat but organize the food separately so as to have something more acceptable). Cruise and theneat later - why waste all those calories?

Im not sure of the price of the horse & buggy ride, but I will do my best to find out for you. I work and go to school in NY so when I drive pass in the next week or two I will stop and ask.

According to www.centralparknyc.org cost of the horse and buggy ride is $34.00 for first 20 minutes and $54.00 for 45 to 50 minute tour. More information at (212) 736-0680.

Hogs N Heifers is a dive bar where women are allowed to dance on top of the bar, and the female bartenders basically abuse the men. There are 2 locations, One in the meatpacking district by 10th Ave and W 13th Street, and another by 1st (or is it 2nd?) Avenue and 90th Street.

Personally, I'm not crazy about the place as dive bars go, think bras hanging everywhere, drunk college kids next to bikers, crowded to the point of ridiculousness, and you get the idea. My peeve with it is that I found the bartenders to be nasty the few times I went and waited forever to get served.

Better choices with the same thing (dive bars where women can dance on the bar, and the men get abused) would be Red Rock West on 10th Ave and W. 17th Street (Bartenders and bouncers are friendly there) and Coyote Ugly of the movie fame on 1st Ave by 9th Street. (Again, friendly bartenders, but this place is smaller).
