Visiting New Orleans
 

Hello!<BR>I had been thinking about traveling to NO in August (end of the month). <BR>Good Idea? When is the best time to visit and the best place to stay? I want to stay in the FQ.<BR>Thanks!

If you don't mind heat & humidity, go for it! We love New Orleans but we make sure to go no later than April or from late September on.<BR>There are quiet places to stay in the Quarter, like on Chartres Street.

Just got back and stayed at the Omni Royal Orleans. Just right for us (we don't like bed and breakfasts)- though the rooms are small. You won't be in your room long enough to care about the size. The location was great and there is a rooftop pool with a great view of the Quarter. The antique shops of Royal Street are right there, 2 blocks to Jackson Sq, 3 blocks to the riverfront. 3 blocks to the trolley to the Garden District.<BR><BR>My only other suggestion would be to avoid any place on Bourbon - unless it was very far down (closer to Esplanade than Canal). Bourbon is incredibly noiser late into the night. Hotels in the CBD can be very close to the FQ also and definately would be quietier but the location of the Omni makes it a better choice because you'll fell like you ar in the center of things.

New Orleans is (very) HOT and (very) HUMID during August. I was there last year in August and it rained frequently. The rain was welcomed as i thought it would cool things down a bit once it stopped, but even when it was done raining it was still QUITE humid.

wow!the weather will be brutal! i'd try to stay at Maison Dupuy. it's really nice, has a great pool (a must in that weather) and is a two block walk from burbon street. (yet, far enough away to avoid the crowds). try to get a room with a balcony on the street.
