VISITING LAS VEGAS
We are spending a few days in Las Vegas mid October. I have booked Cirque Du Soleil "O" and am looking for another show. Attracted to see either Gladys Knight or Rat Pack-a Tribute. Any views on these shows, or any other, welcomed.
One of the party coming has mobility problems (but not wheelchair bound) so advice on getting around Las Vegas to make it as easy as possible for them would be appreciated as she is worried about walking great distances. Finally what will temperatures be mid October and will it be cool at night? Also will hotel pools still be open at that time of year? We are staying at HGV Club at Flamingo so any comments on that resort also welcome. Many thanks |
Since you are seeing something as good as "O", why don't you see Danny Gans as the ohter show? He is great, we have seen him twice. They have built him his own theater now at the Mirage.
Las Vegas makes sure that everyone can get around, there are ramps everywhere and elevators for wheelchairs..they want to be sure that everyone is able to gamble :) The hotels themselves are so huge, she will probably need to rest many times , just walking through one. Just go slow, there is plenty to look at while you do~ |
Hi,
Just came back from LV and saw Gladys Knight - the show was great. I was surprised that it was 1hr & 20 mins. Not sure how long I thought it was going to be, but regardless, it was great!!! Hope that helps! Kim |
WHile I haven't seen Gladys Knight in LV, I did see her a few years ago in Atlantic City and I really enjoyed it. She has a very good voice, good stage presence and many songs that I knew that I didn't realize or forgot she sang.

Just in LV in May - saw "O' and it was amazing. Also loved "Mama Mia" and "Blue Man Group" "BMG" is too weird to explain, some love it, some don't - but we enjoyed it, one of a kind!
|
I was in Vegas in October almost 2 years ago, the pool was opened, and it was hot - mid to upper 80s.
|
I also think Danny Gans is a good choice. We really enjoyed his show! We just saw Celine Dion, and unless you are a huge fan, I would skip it. She does have a beautiful voice, but she was annoying (IMO). She just loves herself too much!
|
Celine Dion was just rated one of the 100 WORST music entertainers in history according to one of the music mags (Vibe, Spin, etc). Caught my eye since I know what people pay to see that show.

In mid Oct. the days are usually mild, but the nights can be quite cool. Definitly take a jacket, it could dip as low as the upper 40's. It did one year when we were there in mid Oct.
Good Luck and Have Fun! |
If your fellow traveler has mobility problems, you really should consider a wheel chair. There is SO much walking in Vegas, even to get through a casino is alot of walking for someone not impaired. Everey time I go to vegas, I walk my feet off, and I find it tiring at the end of the day. I can't imagine how anyone with mobility problems can handle it. Save yourself alot of hassle and get the wheelchair.

Thanks for all the helpful comments. I think we may go to Danny Gans show if we can get tickets.
On mobility we are due to pick up car on leaving LV but I wonder if I should hire from beginning to avoid uneccessary walking for my mother who as I say has difficulty walking too far. She also has a UK disabled parking badge. Does anyone know if that is valid in the US for parking? We are staying at HGV Club at Flamingo so any general information on that resort/accommodation would also be appreciated. Also are there trams/buses you can keep hopping on and off at the main hotels and sites for one fare? I read somewhere they (certainly trams) may not all be running. Any other tips that would be helpful on what will help make life easier for my mum when there would also be appreciated Regards |
