Visiting Charleston SC in November - what to pack?
Any help would be appreciated. My husband and I will be in Charleston from 2-16 November, travelling from England and stopping off in Washington DC for three days. I prefer to wear sandals rather than 'sensible' shoes when I'm sightseeing but will the weather be too cool at this time of year?
|
Just wear socks with them and you will be fine.
|
Weather is usually in the 60's and 70's in November in Charleston...not so warm in DC. November is a great time to visit Charleston.
|
I hope vjpblovesitaly is teasing. Socks with sandals? Not in SC. Feel free to pack sandals, but tuck in another pair of shoes as well.
BTW: If you are comparing our weather with the UK, our day time temps are higher, but the night time temps can be frosty in November. |
Better yet, buy shoes here. The exchange rate is great!
|
And Charleston has one of the very best shoe stores in the country--Palmetto Princess, supply the name. I'm blanking.
It may be warm enough for sandals--you just never know. |
Thanks for the advice. We have a house in Spain where we spend quite a lot of time. Sounds like November weather in Charleston could be similar to that of Spain with possibly more humidity. Before I posted my question, I was thinking of packing summer clothes but reading your advice will probably go for something a bit heavier. If I've not got it, sounds like I'll have to shop for it:-)
|
Not necessarily heavier, but do not use "summer clothes" in November. It looks tacky!! Layers work just like everywhere else.
|
As it could easily be warm or cold, best thing to do is check www.weather.com right before you pack (which hopefully you haven't started yet).
And just curious - 14 days is a long time to spend in Charleston (unless you like to really immerse yourself in a place). Are you planning on touring other places in the southeast? |
GoTravel is our Charleston shopping specialist. Look at her posts. She has good ideas about where to eat and what to do as well.

You could go to Savannah for a day or two if you're going to be in Charleston for that long.
