Visit to UT campus
WE are planning to check out the campus in Austin with our son who is a HS senior on Monday 10/11. Would appreciate hotel advice for one night within close proximity to the school. We are driving down Sunday from Dallas and need something that could accomodate family of four. My husband travels every week and is kinda picky about comfortable beds and quiet rooms. Thanks a bunch...

The Driskill hotel (independent) is very historic, convenient to the UT campus, and excellent! http://www.driskil.com/

The Driskill is a beautiful hotel with loads of charm. Usually I would be quick to recommend the Driskill, but you do mention you want a quiet room. The Driskill is on 6th Street, which is the heart of the night life in Austin, so it might be a bit noisy. For me, it would almost be worth it to stay at this incredible hotel, but if a quiet room is a priority, it might not be for you. That being the case, I recommend the Double Tree on 15th Street. It's a little closer to the campus and probably in a quieter area. I hope you enjoy your stay in our city.

When two of my kids were in school there (at different times) we always liked to stay at the Hampton Inn on I-35 and 183. You can get a room with two double beds for about $89 and it's just a few miles from campus. They also include a breakfast buffet.
Try to get out to the Oasis restaurant while you are there just for the experience. It's Mexican food and there are about 40 decks hanging off the side of the cliff over Lake Travis. We like to go via Mo-Pac, right on 360 to left on 2222 and then left on 620 to Comanche Trail. Look for the sign. It's a bit longer this way but gives you good views of the Texas hill country. My kids loved UT. Here's a link to the Oasis. www.oasis-austin.com |
