Visa for Australia?
Hi,
I've heard that U.S. citizens are required to have a visa to travel in Australia. Is this true? I'm going there for a 2 week vacation. Is there any cost for the visa, and how to apply? I already bought my ticket from United. Thanks. JC |
I got my ticket through Qantas but the travel visa was part of it and there was no additional cost if I remember. Check with United and repost this question on the Australia board too. Somebody will definitely have the right answer.

You can do it on-line. It cost AU $ 20.00. You'll need your passport number when you fill in the on-line form. It is good for one year.

I have a friend leaving for Sydney tonite. He called United and applied for the ETA-Electronic Travel Authority, which is the required visa.It is free,a multiple entry visa with a 3 month maximum stay per entry, valid for 12 months from date of issue. It was quick and painless.

Here is the web site for on line visa:
http://www.eta.immi.gov.au/ I used it last year and had no problems at all. Breezed right through passport control at Sydney Airport. |
You should be able to get the visa through United if things haven't changed, and I don't believe there is a fee for the short-term leisure visa. I would call United's international reservations line and speak with them. They should be able to handle this.
