Virginia Climate?
Thinking of moving to VA, want to know the general climate. Is it hot and muggy in the summer? Does it rain a lot? Snow in the winter? If it varies by region, please descibe. Thanks for the help!

Sean, what part of VA? Northern VA is very different from S. VA.

I'm not sure...it would be great if you could give me a "general picture" for both parts. I really appreciate it!!!

Hi Sean - I can tell you about the southeastern area (Virginia Beach, etc.), which is where I live. Summers are hot (80's and sometimes into the mid/high 90's) and the humidity is about as bad. Last month, we had a week when the "heat index" was in the 100's. That's an extreme case, though. Spring and autumn are pleasant, with temperatures in the 60's to 70's. Winter temperatures are usually in the 40's to 50's. There are some winters when it doesn't snow at all and when it does, it's usually a light dusting. One time in the 3 winters I've lived here has there been over an inch accumulation. Hope this helps. Here are some websites for you to check out concerning the area:

http://www.virginia.com
http://www.hamptonroads.com (that one deals with this specific area)

Northern VA has very hot and muggy summers, but the autumn and spring are beautiful. Winter is more like the Northeast than the south - snow, sleet, temps in 20's and 30's.

You're going to hear from all parts of Va. See how friendly we are? You have to move here! I live in Central Virginia and have also lived in Western Virginia. Summers are hot (altho last summer was not) Usually highs in 90s, lows in low 70s. Not much rain. Winters are cold - usually highs in 40s, lows in 20s. We get a couple of snow storms each year - sometimes up to a foot of snow. West of Richmond (i.e. Charlottesville and West) gets considerably more snow than east of RIchmond (i.e. Williamsburg) Spring and fall are wonderful - often perfect temperatures (70s) and blue skies and gentle breezes. Its a great state climate wise!
