Virginia Beach - Summer 2000

My wife and I will be traveling to Virginia Beach with our two teenagers ages 16 & 13. We will be staying at the Virginia Beach Resort & Conference Center. We will be there for 7 nights. I would appreciate any advice regarding activities, shows, restaurants, or comments about this hotel.

Eat at the Duck Inn, not far outside of town.

Be sure to take the kids to the Virginia Marine Science Museum and the Cape Henry Lighthouse. You can also do a harbor tour which takes you by the Norfolk Naval Base. You may also enjoy a drive through the Chesapeake Bay bridge tunnel over to Virginia's Eastern Shore. Historic Williamsburg is not far away and rich in history, plus it has Busch Gardens. Enjoy your vacation!

Reuben - I live in the Hampton Roads area (includes VA Beach) and there are many things to do and see - shopping, historical sites, amusement parks, great restaurants, etc. and of course the beach. Your vacation here will be a great one! Does your family have a preference as to activities to do and certain foods to eat? Post back here with your thoughts and I would be glad to give you suggestions. Also, take a look at these websites for information you might find helpful:
http://www.vabeach.com
http://www.gohamptonroads.com
I have stayed at this hotel & like it. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel has a toll, but it is an engineering marvel, 17 miles long, so take a drive over to Cape Charles, that is a quaint historic town too. I also like the Mariner's Museum in Newport News. Busch Gardens has some of the BEST roller coasters in the country, & is one of the most beautifully landscaped parks in the country. They have multi-day tickets. Tickets to Colonial Williamsburg are only $30 & good for more than one day, you can do most of the sights there in a day. Drive down to Jamestown Settlement too & Yorktown Victory Center for more Colonial & Revolutionary fun!
