Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, Staten Island
 

Is it possible for me to get to Verrazano-Narrows Bridge linking Staten Island to Brooklyn using public transportation? Either train or bus? Am willing to go either from Staten Island or Brooklyn.

I don't know where you are trying to go exactly, but on the Brooklyn side, the R subway train will get you pretty close. Get off at either the 86th Street station or the terminal at 95th St-Bay Ridge, which is less than 1/2 mile from the bridge. Likewise, the ends of several bus lines in the area, like the B37 and the B63, are near the bridge.

At the 86th Street R subway station in Brooklyn you can get the S53 or S79 buses, which cross the bridge and start making stops on the Staten Island side. From Staten Island, the local bus routes S51 and S52 stop pretty close to the bridge and also serve the St. George Ferry Terminal.

If you are looking to cross the bridge the only time you can walk/run across the bridge is in November. It is called The "NYC MARATHON"

Where on the bridge do you want to be??? The last stop of the R subway is at the Brooklyn side.

I would like to take the train one way and the bus back to Manhattan or Brooklyn the other way.

I'd like to take a bus going over the bridge to see the views. On the Staten Island side of the bridge, am interested in seeing the views of the city and Brooklyn (I think there is a park there) and seeing Fort Wadsworth.

I realize pedestrians can't go over the bridge and I'm in no shape for the Marathon. :)

I don;t think you realize how long the bridge is - or how far out in the harbor /staten Island Is.

It's easy to get good views of Brooklyn and Manhattan from each other - since they're only across the East River. But views of anything from the bridge - until you get close are not great - esp depending on what lane you're in. And can easily be blocked by other vehicles.

To get good views coming from Staten Island I would take the ferry back and forth from Manhattan - IMHO much better views and you can position yourself wherever you want to on the ferry.

There is NO train to Staten Island. The options are
1)the FREE Staten Island ferry which many tourists take for views (of the Statue of Liberty) or

2)the Express bus from Manhattan or

3)driving your own car. That's it.
