Vermont foliage?
We are flying into Albany, NY on October 3rd. The plan is to get an early start on the 4th and travel up Vermont, via route 100, and make our way to St Johnsbury. St Johnsbury will be our base camp for hiking in the White Mountains and checking out the NE Kingdom. We will make our way back down to Albany on the 8th for a late flight out. I have been watching the foliage report of Vermont's tourism website, and it shows that some areas on 100 have already peaked, as have some areas in the northern part of the state. We will be in Vermont 10 days from now, and am worried that we will miss the peak on 100 and the white mountains. I would really appreciate your thoughts and suggestions . Do we need to look for alternative routes? Thank you.

Would you want to change your plans and spend time in southern Vermont, if that meant you would see better foliage?

Yes I would agree with Suze, being from that area, the peak season has started,
By October 3rd the best places to catch the beautiful colors the southern points of the mountains will be the best, In NH waterville Vally and below and for vermont Around Rutland, VT and below will be the best colors I think |
I used to live in Brattleboro, the very most east and southern town in VT. It's gorgeous, that area, and might possibly find you the color you are seeking?

Thank you for the information -- we are now looking for accomodations in the southern part of the state. Thanks for the help!

Try Route 7, between Rutland and Manchester, VT, about that time, and look east at the Green Mountains. I bet they will be gorgeous!
