Vermont bicycle tours - anyone been?

Have this idea that a fall bicycle tour of Vermont would be fun but would really like to hear from someone who has been. So far considering Backroads, Bike Vermont, and VBT. Can you offer any feedback? Would you do this again? What would you change? Thanks.

The companies you mention are all fine and they will take good care of you. My husband and I simply "do it ourselves". I got a copy of the book "25 bike rides in VT". It is written by the person who started one of the bike companies many years ago. Along with our Vermont Atlas, we often revise the itinerary in the book to add on smaller roads. We have finished all the rides in the book and have done many others on our mountain bikes. There is nothing like a Vermont breakfast in a simple little roadside local restaurant. It keeps us pedaling all day long. If you don't camp, you won't have too much gear to carry. Would we do it again? The pedaling in Vermont is a life long pleasure for us. YES!!

My friends have gone on two bike vermont trips...one in Vermont, and one in Ireland. They loved them, and couldn't say enough nice things about the food, lodging and friends they made. Said they had feared lots of either old or super athlete types, but most were professional, quite normal people in their 40s.

You may want to pick up a copy of Bed, Breakfast & Bike Northeast by Cynthia Reeder (it's available at Amazon). It lists 4 or 5 lovely inns in Vermont along with details of 2 or 3 loop rides from each. <BR>
