Vegas - Why so expensive Oct. 8th weekend?
I am travelling to Las Vegas the weekend of October 8th - 11th, and was wondering why all nice hotels on the strip that I enjoy staying at (Mirage, Casears, Paris, Monte Carlo, MGM, etc) are so expensive. I think Monte Carlo is the cheapest on at $199 a night. I have checked all the usual places (vegas.com, las vegas.com, expedia, orbitz, travelocity, etc.) So currently I have a reservation at Golden Nugget for $125/night. I am not satisfied with staying downtown though, and would much rather be directly on the strip at one of the big hotels.
I am a frequent Vegas traveler, but have never been their in Oct. Any insight as to why prices are so high? Any suggestions on when/if they may go down? Or where to look for cheaper hotel rates? Thanks!! |
Monday the 11th is Columbus Day. Certainly the combination of a 3 day holiday and two relatively large conventions (according to this site)

We were considering going the following weekend to avoid the holiday crowds, and the cheapest room at Caesars Palace on Sunday was $500!

Columbus Day weekend would be crowded even w/o the conventions. Reno, Vegas and Tahoe all pretty much fill up over that 3-day weekend.
