Stopping in Vegas on the way to a long roadtrip to California to get married! I am a simple gal, I don't want anything fancy, I also don't want to get married by Elvis or in a drive through. No family or friends will be there. I would appreciate any advice on how to do this and where. Thanks so much!

Congratulations! I recommend checking out Chapel of the Flowers (www.littlechapel.com). It's a Vegas wedding chapel that focuses on tradition and elegance so you can do both simple and traditional - not Elvis. It's a nice middle ground and all the packages include flowers of some sort, photography and internet broadcasting.

We got married at the Little White Wedding Chapel in Vegas 6 years ago- no family or friends attended, but it was so professional and elegant. Great memories- and only $65.00 if I recall- including a limo to and from our hotel, flowers and 12 pictures!

seetheworld. Thanks for an interesting trip report. We decided to move up the wedding, so just going to Vegas now. Staying at The Excalibur. Was just going to have a civil ceremony at the court house. I just recently came back from Edinburgh if you are interested in my trip report.

So, the date is set July 14. Just Vegas-no california. Just going to Clark countyclerk services and doing a civil ceremony. No family or friends. Any suggestions out there for a nice rstaurant to celebrate? I am a vegetarian, but the fiance is not. I just need a place that will offer me something vegetarian. Any suggestions helpful. I suppose you could go to any number of buffets and only eat non meat items.

Brookums, oh I will enjoy reading your report...it's been years since we were in Edinburgh, such a lovely place!

Oh my, don't go to a buffet for your wedding dinner!

Two lovely places we just went to include Circo (Bellagio) and Micheal Mina (also Bellagio).

At Circo tell them the celebration and ask if they could seat you at the window to view the fountains. They have a menu with both vegetarian and meat options - take a look at their online menu.

Michael Mina is slightly more limited but you could have an outstanding meal there. The beet salad is to die for. Also the peacan streusel cauliflower (hope you are not vegan). There is a butternut squash risotto on the menu as well (did not try but tell me about it if you do). The bread is sinful. The Bellagio cocktail delicious. Atmosphere and service wonderful. Tell them of your occasion.

I would change hotels if you're not locked into a pre-paid deal. The Excalibur is dull, showing its age, and not very well-located for a first timer's trip to Las Vegas. Also, July brings fantastic room deals to the better hotels because people need to be enticed to travel there in the 105 degree heat.

For Hoover Dam, rent a car. Enjoy the air conditioning as you drive up to Valley of Fire, down around Lake Mead, and onward to Tillman Bridge and the damn. A nice day trip, bring plenty of drinking water!

I agree with Tracy. There are also some nice choices away from the madness of the strip, such as the Green Valley Resort, or Red Rock, etc, where you have views, nice pools and larger rooms.

Check out the Platinum too, and call their in-house reservations, for amazing rates not listed, and condo sized suites, with enormous bathrooms. Congratulations!

I have never been to Vegas, and actually only travel to Europe so this is a first for us both. I have waited over 17 years to marry this man-so we could get married in a mcdonalds I would not care. Anyways, going to Ireland in October, so I have many things to look forward to. Thanks again everyone for all your reccomendations.

How far is the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas? Do you pass Hoover Dam on the way? Can it all be done in one day? Have a rental car and want to take advantage of that.

To save some time on your way to the south rim of GC you can stay at the Hacienda http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...ty_Nevada.html
By all means drive down to the dam. After you go through security, go across the dam to the Arizona side where the free parking is. Walk back over the dam and pay for the tour down inside the dam.
When you leave the dam, you have to go back up the hill to get onto the new high bridge on US 93 to Kingman.
You can choose to drive the Interstate or take the old Rt. 66.
