Vegas Virgin! On a Budget! HELP!
 

I am going to Vegas for the first time on Wed. Jan. 28th, and have everything booked.

I am not into gambling, but read posts about getting "comped" for dinners, etc;...I also saw this on NBC "Vegas" ;)
Is this 'perk' just from gambling? Where can I get coupons for discounts or 2 for 1 things? Free drinks are just when you are in the casino?
If I splurge on one great dinner, any suggestions?

I don't gamble when in LV either. So I don't get comped for any free shows, food, or drinks. I don't use the 2 for 1 coupons because I just eat/see whatever I want. There is a halfprice ticket booth (ask when you get there) for shows. There are many fine places to splurge so how much do you want to spend and what do you like?

The old thread is full of great advice on things to see. The only thing I wouldn't recommend is the pirate show. They're now sirens, and the consensus is that the show is not that good anymore. Another thing to consider is an afternoon show, if you have the time. These shows are generally much cheaper than evening shows.

Comps are an interesting thing in this town. Most do come from gambling- a lot. If you get a Player's Club card, you earn points for every dollar you gamble. (I don't know the system of points per dollars, though). That's for normal people. For high rollers, they get everything comped, merely based on the size of their bankroll. After all, they have a much better chance of dropping a lot more money than Joe Schmoe! :)

As for 1 great dinner, it really depends on what you want. One of my fav. restaurants on the strip is Prime at the Bellagio. The steak is worth every penny and the view is free. The Paris buffet is also excellent if you want something a little less formal. There's so many restaurants to choose from, so if you have an idea of what you want, that will help!

Free drinks in the casino are just brought to people who are gambling. Walk up to a bar and you'll pay.

On the sidewalk between Paris and Aladdin, they apparently have coupon booklets for $5 off the Aladdin's early bird dinner or Sunday brunch (regularly $16.99 & $19.99 I think).

And even if the drinks are free you must tip the server. One couple near me didn't - and then didn't understand why they got no refill.

If you want to get "free" drinks, just sit down at a .25 machine and play. Cocktail servers will come around often. Be sure and give her $1.00 for each drink and she will be back. Give her $5.00 and she will be back more often.

The "free drink" issue mentioned in the link is not gambling related.
Casino Royale offers a free margarita to people who show an out of state driver's license.
