vegas trip report
Had a great time in Vegas last weekend. We flew in on friday afternoon from LA. It was COLD! Easy cab ride from the airport to Treasure Island. I have stayed there before. It is across from the Venetian. Great pool, lovely recently renovated rooms with big bathtubs though not as flashy as bellagio or other hotels. Good price. We checked in, went and checked out the Venetian (rather boring in my humble opinion) and headed downtown by cab. I had never spent time there before. I loved it. Very kitchy. We caught the Fremont Experience where moving pictures are projected overhead on the covered main street to (this time) county music. We were dancing in the street to be sure. Had the famous 99 cent shrimp cocktails and french dips at the Golden Gate Casino and spent the evening winning at blackjack with a colorful cast of characters at Bennigan's. Downtown is great for gambling if you are a neophyte like me. No pressure. Awakened late and did the strip after a big breakfast buffet at Treasure Island. We were going to go to Bellagio for breakfast but decided waffles are waffles. Yummy. (I've had dinner at Bellagio Buffet and thought it the best on the strip). Paris is really an incredible hotel. We decided it was our favorite by theme. Beautiful! Of course, in the summer I'd book Bellagio in a hot second for the pools alone. Went and saw Blue Man Group at night. Sensory overload!! The drunk yelling people behind us really added to the experience. It is funny and bizzarre. Next, my favorite restaurant in Vegas - Emeril's Fish House at MGM. Yummy. andouille encrusted redfish, bque'd shrimp, frozen lemon souffle, a few drinks. The only negative thing to say is that the service was not what it had been last time i was there. The waitress threw in one to many "awesomes" and was a little hovering for us. A firm "we need a lot of time" took care of that though. I highly recommend the food. Then walked back a ways and ended up cabbing back to the hotel to wind up our trip. Passed the fountain show at Bellagio argueably one of the most romantic spectacles in Vegas. All in all, a great weekend getaway.
