Vegas to Laughlin drive advice..
After spending two days in Vegas, we are driving to Laughlin. Are there any interesting side trips between the two that won't be too time consuming? Also, would a convertible in August be too much? What are your impressions of Laughlin, and any fun places while there? We will be at Harrah's.

Hwy 95 is the fastest route and it's a scenic drive but not much to do. This route is 100 miles and will take about 2 hours.
If you want to go or come back a fun route then from Las Vegas take Hwy 93 down to Kingman. There is a lot of old Route 66 history here and a neat museum. From Kingman pick up the old route 66 and drive to Oatman, NV. This is a quaint old living ghost town. Burro's roam the street and they will stop the traffic on Route 66 to have staged gunfights in the middle of the street. This route is 165 miles and will take about 4 hours. They say Laughlin is how Las Vegas was about 30 or 40 years ago. Harrah's is nice. Utahtea |
Your convertible will be great between 4 AM and 7 AM at that time of year. Laughlin has the Colorado River and Lake Mojave. Rent a boat or a jet ski.
You just won't believe how hot it gets in August. Oatman is pretty interesting, check out the hotel room where Clark Gable and Carole Lombard spent their wedding night. |
Just keep your eye out for the police on highway 95. I have heard that this highway, especially between vegas and laughlin is a speedtrap.

Pack water to drink and check your car over before making the rather short drive... there aren't many stops in the desert between these two towns.
I like Don Laughlin's Riverside Casino best - you may even see Don there in person. And I 2nd the side trip to Oatman. It was a fun stop during one of my trips to Laughlin. |
Thanks for the help. I will follow the suggestions, and change the car reservation--what was I thinking?
