Vegas to Lake Powell - how far?

We are planning a trip to Vegas and thinking about checking out Lake Powell. How far and how long does it take to get there?
Thanks

For online maps, directions, and distances, go to www.mapquest.com, then select "Driving Directions" and type in the begining and ending cities (or even the exact addresses). Doing so gives 444 kilometers from Las Vegas to Page AZ, gateway to Lake Powell.

Do NOT take Map Quest's driving directions as the gospel. They make several mistakes that can make your trip a nightmare. I recently checked out their travel directions for two different trips in California. Being a native Californian, I am very familiar with the state. Both trips were pretty easy and involved major freeways. Both times their routing was very bad. Longer distance and secondary roads where the freeway was the closest and most direct route.

One example: Los Gatos, CA - Modesto, CA. Map Quest said to take 17/880 north and then cut over to 680 to 84 and the cut over to 580. The cutover from 880 to 680 requires driving on city streets. Hwy 84 is hardly a hwy. It is a narrow 2 lane road winding road that dumps you on the city streets of Livermore. Correct route should have been 17 north to 280 South ( actually is east ). 280 swings north and becomes 680 where you drive straight to 580. Not nearly as complicated as Map Quest's route and is freeway all the way.

Another trip had them taking me on a route that was double the distance on secondary roads when it was a straight shot on the freeway.

Traffic is not a consideration and their sofyware is not that sophisticated.
