Vegas Shows - Stomp, Blue Man, or Mystere - with Kids
 

I usually answer questions like this one, since I live here in Vegas, but I haven't seen any of these.

Has anyone seen Stomp Out Loud, Blue Man Group, or both and can recommend one or the other for kids? Ages are 9 and 12, and we all live here in town, so we don't need to start a discussion about Las Vegas and child appropriateness. This will be a special night out to see a show.

I saw Blue Man when they were off Broadway, but can't remember if I saw lots of kids in the audience.

Mystere would be last choice because I've seen the other Cirque shows and Dad has seen Mystere.

I've seen Blue Man and Mystere. Have not seen Stomp.

For the kids- Mystere, hands down.

For kids, I would put Blue Man Group ahead of Mystere. Tell them it will be weird and watch their eyes.

Nothing wrong with Mystere however.

Not seen Stomp...but would rate them in this order:
1. Blue Man
2. Mystere
3. stomp

I'm for Blue Man, too. The kids will love it and guaranteed not to get bored!

I vote for Mystere. My son saw Mystere when he was 12 and LOVED it.

For kids - Mystere.... While it is a Cirque, it is very different from the other Cirques I have seen.... Kids (and adults) just love it...

Thanks for the replies. I think we're leaning towards Blue Man right now. They're running a special for locals - half off ticket price - so that saves me the hassle of trying to find discount tickets.

This was a Christmas present and I printed out all three shows and told them they could choose. Blue Man seems to be in the lead.

I will post back once we've definitely decided, but in the mean time, if anyone has any more thoughts, I'm reading!

We've seen all three shows, and for kids I'd recommend Blue Man Group, although Mystere would be second choice. We saw Stomp last September, and frankly, it was kind of boring. I had expected it to be a bigger deal. I thinks kids would become bored before adults.

My kids saw Blue Man when they were 9 and 12 and loved it. This was in New York and they distributed ponchos to the first several rows of people since paint and other objects found their way into the audience. We sat in about row 10 and were fine.

Our family (by now the kids were 16 and 13) saw Mystere and liked it. Would say that Blue Man was their favorite of the two, though.

Living here is a totally different story. We rarely go to the Strip, even without kids. When we go to the show, we'll park in the parking garage, walk through the most minimal amount of casino space possible, go to the show, and leave.

From a vacationing perspective, I wouldn't recommend bringing kids to specifically "see" Las Vegas. There's nothing for them to see, really. And from an alternative perspective, when it's time for "adult swim", you don't really want kids splashing around in the pool. I have a relative who purposely does not censor her behavior around kids in Vegas. It's a little extreme, but a valid point. Kids don't really belong here. Yes, there are attractions geared towards kids and families, but you can take them to Six Flags and have more, clean fun.

Having said that, Vegas is an EXCELLENT base to see tons of other things. There are lots of activities just off the Strip that are great for kids - from fun stuff in town to several major national parks within day trip range. Add that to the usual great deals on airfare, and it's a good start/end point. So whether one spouse has business in Vegas and the family comes along or you're roadtripping through the area or you want to go somewhere warmer and found good airfare to Vegas, don't rule it out. Just don't make Las Vegas BE the trip with kids.

And while you're here with the kids, just be aware that you have to be prepared for what you do and do not want them to see. It's not as easy as turning off the TV, though...!

There has been many discussion on different boards on the subject of kids in Vegas.

Your views are the same as mine and you seem like a reasonable person.

I hope people that plan to take kids to the Strip really reconsider.

As you said, there is so much to do around the area.

I hope you enjoy your visit - I saw you were one of the few who DOES like Vegas, from the favorite/least favorite cities thread! It's an odd city; it actually has a ton of very interesting history, it's just that it has no regard for historical preservation and tears down everything 15 years and older. That's my biggest frustration. I so wish I could have seen it before it became what it is today (my first visit was in 1999).

As I said, it's an excellent base for trips in all directions (and if you're flying here, you might as well spend a night on the Strip!), just not necessarily a DESTINATION for children.

They will enjoy Mystere as we did.
