Vegas Shows?
 

We'll be in Las Vegas for the first time for a few days after Christmas. My husband and I want to see a show, however he is soured at the prospect of paying $88.00 to see Cirque du Soleil so that's out. Any other suggestions? We like comedy and dancing (more like musical/popular choreographed dancing than "real" dance like ballet or something). I was looking at the listing for Second City which looked like Whose Line is it Anyway and sounded good. Anyone see that?

I haven't seen Second City, but it's supposed to be VERY funny. Another good one is the Mac King comedy magic show at Harrahs.

This isn't directed at your husband, Monica, since I don't know your budget and those tickets are a lot of money.

But I am astounded by the people that object to paying that kind of money for a couple hour show, but drop hundreds of dollars an hour at the tables.

If you search for "Vegas shows" you'll find many suggestions. This was discussed a few days ago so there should be current info.

My husband and I went to Las Vegas in July and we saw Blue Man Group and Penn and Teller. Like your husband, I was not pleased about having to spend $100 per ticket per show. But I have to say, the experience was worth the money. We will never forget both shows...I even got to go on stage during the Penn and Teller show!! Simply unforgetable.

We recently saw the Penn & Teller show and Lance Burton. Both were very good shows and the tickets were in the $70-$75 range.

We saw Second City. It was GREAT!!!!! We were in stitches all night. ((b))

Thanks. I will get tickets to Second City then. To Keith, yeah, I think it would be worth it to see Mystere but my husband doesn't and he will be sour if I make him go. Better to just see the touring version with my friends when it comes into town. And we don't gamble either, so no money wasted there! We're mostly going to spend it on going to some really good restaurants.

I can't imagine being in Las Vegas and not seeing one of the Cirque shows, if tickets are available. I would go even if I went alone. You will end up spending at least $65.00 per ticket, I would think, for one of the other shows. Jubilee and the show at Tropicana have beautiful costumes and dancing, but those shows are in the $65.00 range. I don't enjoy gambling, so the shows in Las Vegas are the fun thing for me. The hit broadway show, "Mama Mia" is also there. Hope you enjoy your time in Vegas.

One not yet mentioned here "The Amazing Jonathan". Kind of a cross between the afore-mentioned (& very good shows) Penn & Teller & Lance Burton but less expensive.

I know we each have our budget, but frankly I'd much rather pay $88 each for two tickets to Cirque du Soleil than $40 each for most of the other shows. Some people will spend more on two or three mediocre shows than if they "pooled" their money for one really great show. I'd personally prefer the latter.

Try this on the husband. "I can get you super bowl tickets for $100 each, or we could go to two local high school games for $50 each. Which would you prefer?"

Patrick, I agree. The Cirque shows are outstanding and well worth the additional money.

Thanks for all of your advice. Patrick, my husband doesn't watch football so your analogy would be lost on him. I think the key here is that he doesn't want to go to Cirque. And I can't really make him have a good time even if I force him to attend the show. Comedy is probably more his thing, so we will do that.

Monica -- Maybe you should show your husband all the great posts about Mystere. Unless you will be able to go another time...don't miss out! I've seen Mystere 4 times now, and have taken a range of personalities (doubters) along. All have raved about it since. WONDERFUL! Second City is great too :)

My husband was adamant about not seeing a Cirque show, but when we were deciding about what to do. Then ,my husband talked to one of the stewardess on Delta, and she went on and on how she loved Mystere and how she thought she would hate it. It was a turning point for him, and we were able to get some of the last tkts available. He LOVED it and now wants to see "O" next time in Vegas. PLease do try to see it, it is a once in a lifetime expereince....esp. the "hand to hand" segment...simply incredible. I agree with Patrick about seeing one spectaculer show, instead of 2 "good" shows IMHO. Judy
