vegas questions!

Hi. I have a couple of q's re: Las Vegas in April. First, I've narrowed it down to Paris, Monte Carlo and Mandalay Bay. Would appreciate info re: size of rooms, romance level and the pool area at the Paris (which I've heard nothing about) Also, will Easter week be filled with kids? Thanks!

If by kids you mean, college (ie drinking age) 20 somethings, then you'd be right. Vegas is a mecca for West Coast "kids" on Spring break. Sorry I can't comment on the hotels you mentioned.

Mandalay Bay is definitely the nicest of the three (and the priciest). Rooms are the biggest here, great bathrooms. Forget about Paris, it's just crowded and gimmicky. Monte Carlo is OK, but nothing special. I'd spend the extra $ and go for Mandalay Bay.

As the previous poster said, Vegas will be overrun with Spring Break college kids that week. Mandalay Bay will turn into a club atmosphere at night, but overall is fairly grown-up.

Thanks you two! I am leaning towards Mandalay Bay. RE: Spring Break...I thought that the break was at different times for different colleges across the country. Does anyone know if it is definitely the week immediately following Easter out west? Thanks.

We stayed at Paris in July and really enjoyed it. The rooms are very nice...nicer than many of the properties , quite auiet and plush. the bathrooms are done rather well. I don't think it would be crowded with kids as it just doesn't have the proper appeal. Paris is not at all gimmicky...not any more gimmicky than any of the other properties. I would definitely prefer it to the MC. Mandalay Bay is very nice. Restaurants are rather upscale comparatively speaking. Pool area may be crowded that being your spring break week. Sounds like you want something classy and romantic. Have you thought about the Bellagio? Don't know your budget level, but if I haed the funds I would consider staying on the top for levels of the Mandalay Bay...the Four Seasons. Staying here you will get the epitome of service, rooms, etc. You can use the pool here or at the MB. Rates include use of fitness center, cabanas at pool(April?) and many other things. Go into the discussion board at www.lvol.com - these guys really know their stuff and there are plenty of trip reports to catch up on the different properties. Hope this helps.

I would tend to disagree w/ Eli. I feel the Paris would be a good choice (especially based on location) and found my room to be every bit as big and/or nice as either Mandalay Bay or Luxor Towers (admit I've not stayed at Monte Carlo). However, I think you're going to be highly disappointed in any hotel if you truly feel you're going to avoid a younger crowd. Vegas is crowded pretty much everywhere, regardless of price. In fact, it can be worse at the nice hotels (Belagio, etc) because all the young wannabe's come and gawk and hangout cause they know they can't afford to stay there. In addition, most Vegas hotel rooms (outside of the suites) are not that impressive. They make them nice but not so nice you don't want to go gamble if you catch my drift. Hell, I believe it was at the Mirage that I didn't even get HBO (or any other premium channel). Don't get me wrong, I love Vegas would recommend either the Mandalay Bay or Paris. It's just that the hotels (again outside of a suite) are nothing to write home about.

We go to Vegas 3 or 4 times a year. Have stayed at most hotels{love to move around}.Mandalay Bay does draw young crowd because of pool & HOB.BELLAGIO & VENETIAN great rooms & atmosphere.Loved Paris bathrooms, rooms just nice (but only 49$!) Monte Carlo very nice also. All above better location than MB.

Definitely Mandalay Bay. One word: House of Blues, Aureole, Border Grill, Rum Jungle, Vodka Bar...oh, err.

Anyways, it rocks. Oh. And go see Blue Man Group at the Luxor. You won't even realize they were really mimes until after the show is over and you enjoyed it.

Does anyone know the exact dates of Spring Break for L.A. (UCLA)? Many thanks.

Spring break for most 4 year colleges in the USA this year is either Mar.5-10 or Mar.12-17. The week after Easter is much later than that. In my experience the weeks before and after Easter at any vacation destination are crowded to the max with grade school and high school kids with their families, as that is the week that they have only partial schedules. You may get more of the West Coast college crowd that week but probably only on Mon. or Tues. Can't really understand why but seems that lots of families do go to Vegas with the kids, I wouldn't.
