Vegas questions
 

Im in vegas in may, and i will have my two kids, 16 & 4, , I have only been there once (last year) What shows can I take them to? Im staying at the MGM Sig, is this a nice place?
What other help i can get with things to do with the kids would help....

LEAVE THE KIDS AT HOME!!!!! Las Vegas is a place for adults, and all the other adults will really appreciate it if you leave the children behind.

Your kids will love the place.

Take them to Mac King's afternoon show, the Bellagio fountains, the pirate show at Treasure Island, the cats at MGM, the Venetian (Grand Lux restaurant).

Have a ball, and don't listen to uninvited negativity.

And if you must parade them through vegas, be sure they are wearing masks so they don't suck in cigarette smoke!
Really, other than the pool and VERY expensive video-game type areas, there's not much in Vegas for kids anymore--even the fun Treasure Island free pirate show has turned into a titsnass spectacle.

The Luxor has some 3-d rides and 3-d IMAX shows that everyone in your family might enjoy. The 3-D IMAX shows are especially well done.
Several rollercoaster rides in Vegas...New York New York and Speed at Sahara are my two favorites.
The Star Trek Experience is very well done also.
Mystere would entertain any age IMO.
Just a few to start get you started...have fun!

The Shark Reef aquarium at Mandalay Bay is terrific.

Kids will love the pools and buffets. There's an M&M factory store that will be fun for the 4 year old.

After dinner, i would recommend going to see the Bellagio fountains, then pop into the Bellagio for a delicious gelato dessert, then come back out and see another fountain number.

The Aladdin shops have an indoor rain shower that my kids loved when they were young, plus its a huge shopping area. the Forum shops at Caesars are nice to walk around.

Love at the Mirage, Beatle music with Cirque performance is a family affair. Probable even a four year old would enjoy.

MGM and south strip in general is a good area for kids in Vegas. Great pool complex there also.

Vegas is not a town for kids. That is unless you like that fact the ads for hookers and porn are distributed on the streets and litter the sidewalks. If that is how you want to explain the "birds and bees" to a 4 year old then go to Vegas and have a ball.

I haven't encountered that situation at or around the better properties at Center or South Strip. Rockerdan has already planned and made reservations. They will do fine.

Scratch the Gelato at Bellagio. Kids aren't allowed into Bellagio if they aren't registered guests at that hotel.

Although Las Vegas is typically a place for adults, there are plenty of things to do there with your kids. If you check out www.vegas.com they give suggestions on places to go with your kids, girlfriends, husband, etc. Try going to places like M&M World, Game Zone, Treasure Island, Circus Circus, and New York New York. The luxor has a great 4D movie about a pirate that is a lot of fun. As far as staying at the MGM, they have free television screenings, the lion habitat, and the Rainforest Cafe is always a lot of fun. A couple of other things that I thought were great is the Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay, and the animal shows at the Mirage.

The posters are right about Las Vegas NOT being the place for kids, but if you're bringing them there are some things that they will enjoy - most have been listed already, except for the Secret Garden at the Mirage - that is a great place and kids will ove getting to see the dolphins, tigers, lions, etc up close.

I will concur with sylvia3, though - do NOT take them to the pirate show at Treasure Island - it is an adult show these days and NOT the kind of thing you'd like your kids exposed to.

My 5 year old granddaughter lives there. Get off the strip with them. Two trips which should be of interest to both:

about 30 minutes from the strip, easy drive. A great book store and visitor center, very informative. A loop road, with lots of pull outs and short walks available. Wild burros may be seen. One came right up to our car window.
Our grandaughter loved both these days. Maybe about 3-4 hours for each activity for you, or longer if you find interest and linger.
Except for the pool area of your hotel, my advice is get em off the strip.

We enjoyed Redrock ourselves when my son was 12. We did it in a 4 hour trip with a picnic lunch.

For kids, I think the best stuff is the "non-Vegas" stuff such as tours out into the desert, Hoover Dam, and of course, the pool. I have a hard time thinking of anything else that will appeal to both a 4 year old and a 16 year old. That's a big gap. How about doing stuff with them all day, then drafting the 16 year old to babysit the 4 year old at night while you do something you enjoy?
