Vegas on a Budget for under 500 in December?
Ok, so I am considering my options of where to travel in December....it is a tie between Vegas and NYC...the budget may dictate where I can go.....
If one were going to have a big celebration, although they would have to celebrate solo, what would you suggest to make the most out Vegas?
I have been to Vegas before, and am wondering what to do for a solo celebration for under 500 bucks for around 3 full days in December.

I don't understand - what is this $500 supposed to cover? The whole trip??? Airfare? An extra special evening?
Don;t know where you're from but don;t see how you can do 3 days in NYC in December for $500 given hotel prices. Frankly - don;t see how you could do it in Vegas either - at a decent hotel.

Including airfare?! Wow. Unless you'll be flying from LA, I can't imagine it. I live in the DFW area, and usual airfare from here is about $250. That soaks up half of your budget!
If you need to stay in a hotel for 3 nights, and you only have $250, I'd say look somewhere off-strip like one of the Palace hotels or the Silverton. You could also try downtown, like Fitzgeralds'.

Las Vegas can be done for $500, although I'm not sure how you can have a "big celebration" for that amount.
Depending on where you're flying from, you may be able to find some fairly cheap charter flights. I know charter flights from Minneapolis can be as low as $130 or so (yes, RT), but they sell out quickly.
I've mentioned this before on other threads, and it always seems to get lost in the shuffle, but Sahara Casino/Hotel has pretty cheap rates. If you look at their website right now, you'd find rooms Sun-Thur for $43 + tax for the first 3 weeks of December. Granted, it's not a luxury hotel, and it's at the far end of the strip, but 3 nights for around $150 would help you fit into your budget. The Fremont St hotels are usually pretty cheap too.
There are lots of free/cheap things in LV to do and see, but I don't know what you're looking for that would fit your big celebration. It seems like anything really worth doing or seeing costs money, and usually a good amount. Nevertheless, it is still possible for a 3 night trip to stay under $500.

Ok, like the others, I don't understand what you want us to suggest. Just forget air/hotel/food to NYC for "under 500". And you must know that the main activity in Las Vegas is gambling ($$$$) -- if you don't gamble, what are you looking for there? A day trip ($100) is probably out of your budget, as is shopping, or going to one of the many shows/concerts. That's just not enough money to go anywhere unless you're staying with friends and mostly eating in.

When you find the time machine that will let you go back to the early 80's and have three days in NYC or Vegas for $500, PLEASE let me know!!! I could do with a long weekend in Vegas right now.
Seriously, IF you use priceline for your airfare and hotel, are NOT picky about where you stay, will fly in to Newark and take the Port Authority Bus into NYC, then a bus (no taxis) to your destination hotel, do only free activities (of which there are many) and take at least some of your food in your suitcase (a hot water coil, Cup-A-Soup, crackers, bread, peanut butter, etc.) you might be able to do it. But even with those parameters it will probably cost you $750 just because of the airfare. Please post a trip report of this adventure, as it would be very interesting and informative!!!

Come on guys, all you spoiled brats It's easy to do Vegas on a budget.
Flight... are you in SF, 29? Get Southwest or Alaskan or one of those cheapies. Stay in Sahara. Even their dinner buffet is under $10.
Every casino has something to offer for free. Bring another pair of shoes for walking

A couple of years back, we spent three nights in the Rio, in December, for $160 for all three.
That 10-15 days after the Rodeo Finals, and before Christmas, is as cheap as Vegas gets. Particularly midweek.

I concur. The two weeks before Christmas is "dark week" in Vegas. Most of the nicer restaurants (Picasso's, etc) and almost all of the shows are closed during that two week period. If there's any time of year to find cheap rooms, that's it! Also, there's so much to do for free at all of the properties - fountains at Bellagio, Mirage's volcano, TI's Siren show, Bellagio's botanical garden, etc. It really can keep you busy for quite a while. Don't know how you can save money gambling, though!

So I just went to www.vegas.com and did a hotel search for mid-December. You can stay at the Palace Station for only $19.95/night. Stratosphere is $40 and so is the Sahara. Gold Coast is $31 and the Tropicana is $48. If you call the hotels directly, you may be able to get an even better deal.

Well, if they take Southwest, they should be able to get RT tickets for about $200. Then if they do a $40/nt hotel that brings them to a total of $320. That leaves $180 for food and entertainment. Definately doable...but it won't be a "big" celebration.

I am sorry that my original posting was incorrectly written...
I was looking for things to do in vegas for under 500 bucks including airfare and hotel...
I have already seen sites where airfare, hotel for four days on the strip, and insurance and taxes is around 300 bucks.
so I will have to use the other 200 on 1 show, and my food.....

Go to www.vegas.com and click on shows. Near the bottom of the page it lets you sort by price. Most of the better shows will run you over $100 but you can get some tickets for as little as $20. Good luck!!

Thanks, everybody!
Right now Vegas is my definate 2nd option.
If I can do NYC for 1000 (including spending money), I may go for that as well since it is a pretty big personal celebration.
wish me luck!!
