Vegas - Is everyplace smoke-filled?
 

Well, I guess my title asks the question - are all the hotels & casino filled with cigar/cigarette smoke?

some more than others,the older casinos with low ceilings, have the worst ventilation.The newer casinos like the Bellagio/Venetian have higher ceilings and the Bellagio seems to be almost smoke free.

It depends on the age, size and ceiling height of the casino. Most of the newer ones have high ceilings and very large casinos, so unless you're sitting right next to a smoker, you'll be fine. Some casinos have non-smoking tables and/or non-smoking slot areas. The older casinos, especially the downtown ones, tend to be quite smoky even when you're NOT right next to a smoker.

Like the previous posts indicated, some are smokier than others. However, all are somewhat smoky. I've noticed that a pretty high percentage of gamblers are also smokers -there is even smoking permitted in many (most) restaurants (with non-smoking tables available).

We were in the Bellagio in March.It was very easy on the lungs! Our floor was smoke free,the rooms were completely fresh smelling and clean.The casino and restaurants were not smokey at all.

I have found that there is a distinct correlation between smoking and gambling. What's with that?

Not sure what the correlation is, but perhaps risk takers both?<BR><BR>Was listening to talk radio and someone suggested that LV have a non-smoking casino/hotel. The response was that it has been tried and was a flop (several years ago), but might work now if it were a big hotel like the newer ones. Curious if you all think it would survive?

They've tried smoke-free bars and night clubs a couple of times in my area (South Florida), but were never successful. It seems like such a good idea though. Maybe the drinking (free if you're gambling) has something to do with the gambling/smoking relationship. I know lots of people who don't smoke ordinarily, but will buy a pack and smoke up a storm if they are out on the town drinking and such. Weird, huh?

Foxwoods in CT has a smoke free casino. (They have 3 or 4 casinos, one of them is smoke free)<BR><BR>Their smoke free casino is downstairs, but it's by far my favorite. The other casinos are disgustingly clogged with smoke. I wouldn't go to any other casino. <BR><BR>If I was building a casino in LV I'd want to employ a similar approach: have a normal casino and also a "Sattelite" casino offering smoke free gaming. That way, a party of smokers and non-smokers would be all able to enjoy my casino. <BR><BR>I hate smoking in casinos. I'm all for personal liberty and freedom, but their decision to smoke seriously impacts my health and enjoyment.

Wow smoke free bars in FLA were not successful. Oh probably because they had to compete with the smoking allowed. All restaurants and bars in CA are smoke free so it's really great to go out and not have to take your clothes to the cleaners or worse yet leave them outside after a night on the town.

The newer the casino, the better the ventilation systems. Stay in some of the newer casinos and you should be fine. Also, all the hotels (even the older ones) have non-smoking rooms.

It does not matter if you stay in a non-smoking room and hang out in the newer casinos, you will still end up smelling like cigerette smoke in no time. It's all over the place. Wear older clothes (better yet toss them in the garbage as you leave .. seriously) and wash your hair every change you get to minimize the stink. Even the best ventilated places tend to have the smell in the air. Likewise restaurants. It's as hard to avoid cigerette smoke in 'Vegas as it is in Europe.

My husband and I love to go to Las Vegas several times a year. It used to be worse (smoke) but the past couple of years I think it's better. We always request a non-smoking room and play black jack at a non-smoking table. No problems at all. Not sure what this talk about the restaurants is...we always request non-smoking and this is where we sit. It certainly hasn't been an issue to keep us away from Las Vegas. We leave next week, yea!

I've been told there are smoke-free casinos in Laughlin. Now you just have to worry about the gang fights!

Regardless of how little smoke you perceive in the air in LV, be aware that your clothes will STINK when you get back to your room.<BR>For those who think their rooms smell nice and clean, I think your noses were just becoming accustomed to the smoke. I often notice the same thing....seems like the air gets cleaner every year, but when I get home to my (smoke free) house and pull out my LV clothing YECHH! The smoke smell is rancid.<BR><BR>Oh well, it IS getting a little better each year.

That was the ONLY thing we didn't like about Las Vegas. The smoke KILLED us! It was everywhere we went. Even in the malls. YECH!!!!

Just returned from Vegas and I echo the other posts. The smoke really wasn't bad and I am very sensitive to it. We were at Foxwoods a few months ago and the smoke was unbearable. The "smoke-free" casino was better but some people were still smoking. I guess if you're spending money they look the other way.

Not crazy about the smoke, but if I'm winning money, it bothers me a lot LESS.

If you are so worried about the smoke in Vegas, then don't go. Just about every has hints of smoke. It sounds like you are from Cal. Stay There! I don't smoke but I'll take the liberty of leaving the establishment before i let my rights be taken.
