Vegas in January

I'd like to know if January is a good time to visit Vegas and stay at the Venetian. Is it a good time of the year to find good deals on this hotel? Any comments that might be useful?
Thanks

Vegas is a year-round kind of town where the "deals" will be driven more by the convention/trade show schedule than anything else. Sign up on the Venetian's website for any newsletters or mail lists they offer; that's a good way to get the inside track on special rates. Many Vegas websites also list the conventions in town for the next several months; check them.

Weather-wise, it's winter in the desert-- cool and basically dry. Don't go expecting the Sahara.

Always bear in mind that, even without a good convention, rates on the weekends are higher as you get a lot of spur-of-the-moment trippers driving in from California. If you can swing a Sunday-to-Thursday stay, you could save a lot of money.

Thank you! I'll check out the Venetian's web site and the conventions for the week I'd like to travel. I knew about the weekends being a lot more expensive so we decided that a weekday visit would be best. I saw some incredible winning bids for the Venetian thru Priceline..$99 a night in August. I hope the prices stay the same in January!

I believe that Comdex (the big computer and technology show) is usually in January. Avoid going that week at all costs. You should not expect August prices in January.

Scratch that...

What I really meant was the CES (consumer electronics show) 115,000 plus people scheduled for 1/6-1/9/05.

Go to the LV convention and visitors site and you can do a convention search on any date range.

I live in Southern California and go to Vegas often. Personally, I believe that any day of the year is the perfect time to go to Vegas. Some people will say there is a low season and high season...but for me, Vegas has always been packed with people whether there's a convention, no convention, winter, summer, whatever...Vegas is pretty much high season 365 days a year/24 hours a day. But that's what's so great about Vegas! It is so much fun! Since you're not planning on going till January, I'm sure you'll be able to find a room this far in advance even if there is a convention going on. The best casino hotel deals are always Sun-Thurs. Weekends are always higher. Keep checking hotel prices daily for the dates you want to go because you'll find the room rates sometimes fluctuate. And the Venetian is an excellent choice. :)

I'm attending a convention at the Venetian in mid-late January 2005. Prices at the Venetian, the Mirage, and Treasure Island are running about $240 or so. Maybe you will find something better. I've done this convention before and the Venetian was a mad-house.

Hi Paulie - I've been to Vegas in February and it was lovely, weather-wise. Work-related so I got a corporate rate and didn't stay on the strip. In fact, after wandering about on the strip, found it to be anti-climatical. However, the DESERT - oh wow. I drove out two days in different directions and could not believe what I was seeing. I'm from the east coast and was astounded. Don't limit yourself to downtown. Get out to the desert (with a full tank of gas, however) and see what it's all about. Go at night for the stars. Beautiful!
