Vegas hotels for families

Hi can anyone help with places to stay on the strip? Don't care about gambling as we have our young kids. Looked at MGM Grand. Any other suggestions with similar price, $200 per night....or cheaper? I would like at least 4 star. Thanks!

The Strip is a particularly bad place to stay for a family with young kids, and I'd urge you to consider not doing this. Perhaps Vdara, which has no casino. Second choice would be the Signature at MGM, but it is probably too expensive.

Of the casino hotels, the Venetian has larger, suite-style rooms, and the Westin is just off the Strip.

Price depends a LOT on time of year, days of the week and other factors.

We got the Signature for well under $100 a night in January.

I used http://www.smartervegas.com/ to find deals, sign up for Unlisted offers in the upper right hand corner.

I booked a room at The Signature that could be cancelled and then checked up on the prices as they dropped the closer we got to our dates. Save at least $25 a night by doing so, got other perks along with it too. I booked directly with The Signature, so it was easy to follow deals and prices and make the changes.

Think about commuting about 10-15 minutes out to the Fiesta in Henderson. I booked a standard room in the morning and showed up about 8PM and they upgraded us to a suite that had 2 bathrooms for the same $. I believe it was slightly under $100.
I believe they also have a movie theater with several screens.
I ate breakfast in their restaurant before checking out.
If the kids want to go out and see Hoover Dam, the Hacienda about 3 miles from the dam is also a good place to stay.
The only place I remember staying on "The Strip" was the Luxor.
The "inclinators" in the corners of the pyramid, were a bit strange to ride up to the rooms.

Thanks for the advice. So staying on strip maybe not great idea with kids. What about somewhere just off that's walking distance? Want to see all the different themed hotels and free things like bellagio fountain. Do gondola ride too.

I don't know of a gondola. There is a zip line under the light show screen at the Fremont Street Experience.
Plan on being on Fremont Street when the light show happens.
The largest gold nugget on public display is at the Golden Nugget along Fremont. The buffet (upstairs) is a bargain before 3PM.
You can park at the Luxor free and then ride on "The Deuce" double decker bus all the way north on "The Strip" to the "downtown"/ Fremont St. area.

A few years ago I stayed at a timeshare place next to Hooters called Desert Rose. We did not do any timeshare - just booked a few nights online. They have 2br suites with full kitchen, which was perfect for family with kids. It's about a block from the strip.

We paid $99 a night in middle of last March for a wonderful one bedroom with very nice balcony at the Signature.

I get deals like that every month of the year from the Signature -- just sign up for the MGM loyalty program, MLife, and you will sept art getting great email deals. So I am puzzled by the advice that the Signature would be out of your price range.

Great property with no casino, linked by indoors to MGM grand, and you can use the pools at MGM grande which we did. There is also a nice pool right at the Signature, one for each of the 3 buildings.

It is quiet but only a 2 block walk to a great part of the strip, and one block to an nice indoor mall with restaurants and shopping. Luxor is close by and Rice and Co there is great for dinner.

The canal with the gondola is at the Grand Canal shops at the Venetian.

I think it's fine to stay on the strip with kids, however.....check all the hotels that do not have a casino!
No casino means....no smoking, no drunks, and a quiet lobby!!
We were very lucky last Christmas and booked the Mandarin for an amazing rate....it was heavenly!!!

I believe the Trump is also casino free. A lot if my friends stay there when on business in Vegas bc it's quiet.

It's a bit misleading to say you can stay "within walking distance" of the Strip. While there are a handful of properties that are near enough to walk, two "blocks" in Las Vegas can be half a mile, so it's not really reasonable to expect kids to walk that far in the heat.

If you have a car, however, parking in LV is generally free, and you can get free valet parking at most places (just tip $2 to $5 depending on how swanky the place is). And if you do that, then staying in Henderson, for example, isn't such a big deal even though it's more than 30 minutes from the Strip (but there's no way I'd stay out by Hoover Dam because that's too far away). And the pools at the off-Strip, non-casino hotels will be more conducive to kids. There are some wonderful pools on the Strip, but they are by and large being turned into outdoor clubs and are really not conducive to families even though they often appeal to kids.

Vegas is not a great place for kids in general but if you are going to do it, I don't think staying on the Strip is worse than staying off-strip. In fact, if you are going to do it, you may as well go all in. MGM Grand is probably a good choice. Mandalay Bay (which also has a Four Seasons) would be good too. There is no way I would stay in Henderson if the goal is to visit Las Vegas.

I agree with everything tom42 said; on the subject of kids in Vegas, I'm Switzerland Seriously, I can see that there are unsavory elements there (to which younger kids may be oblivious), but I also think that if you choose well, there are many things there that kids would enjoy.

I like Vegas a lot, but I don't think it's a great place for tourists to bring their kids. Granted, Circus Circus and (to a lesser extent) Excalibur are themed to appeal to kids, but neither is a top-tier resort. And once you've exhausted these places and maybe the M&M Store, what you're left with is a city that gave up on selling to families and has turned back to playing up Sin, Skin and Gambling.

If you're dead-set on this, try to find a resort without a casino and with a nice pool. Signature at MGM Grand has the pools of the larger property without the casino and the ever-present smoke of gamblers. I LOVE the MGM Grand, but the smoke does bother me (I'm an ex-smoker). The Mirage's pool area is quite nice (and I love this hotel even more than the MGM Grand), but a bit more geared to adults. Maybe Mandalay Bay...? The South Strip location isn't the best, but it has a great pool.

I've been to Vegas twice with my kids. The first time they were very young and it was mainly to get some sun, hang out by the pool, see the fountains, etc. It was only for a couple of days and agreeing with NewbE that they were oblivious to many things. We were back in our room fairly early in the evening and my husband would do a little gambling while I stayed with the kids. We stayed at the MGM Grand that time.

We went back a few years ago when they were teens. This was again only for a couple of days and as an add-on to Zion NP and Hoover Dam. We stayed at the Bellagio, which was surprisingly full of small children, saw a show and walked the strip which they found hysterical - especially the Hello Kitty character "passed out" on the sidewalk holding a bottle of booze. Not sure if that would bother you with young children.

I think a few things will go over my kids heads as they are only 10 & 6 yrs. Another option to stay is the Mirage...how is that for kids? Don't really want the cigarette smoke if we can help it. I will look at Mandalay but seems to be a bit expensive

I will clarify about the length of the walk from the Signature to the strip, since Doug is saying two blocks can be a half mile. That may be true ON the strip, but it is not true on East Harmon, where the Signature is located, going toward the strip

It is a 5 min. walk at a slow pace from the entrance to Tower 3 (the closest of the 3 towers to East Harmon St., the road with the entrance to the Signature) straight up to the Strip.

A 10 and 6 yr old will have no trouble at all with the walk.

And if it is hot outside, there is also an indoor air conditioned hallway that goes from all 3 Towers of the Signature directly to the MGM GRande lobby, shops, restauranys. You never go outside at all that way.

We were at the Mirage to see a Cirque show with my kids.....the smoke definitely bothered me in the lobby areas.
