Vegas hotel price question

I'm looking at prices in Vegas for my visit there (shortly after the first of the year). I've noticed that rates for the dates of January 8 and 9 are EXTREME. Anyone got a clue why?? I don't need a room, thank goodness, but was just curious about the extreme rates for those two particular dates.
Thanks.

Do you really think that is what it is? I knew that the C.E.S. was going to be happening during my visit, but I really thought it must be something else that's driving the prices UP so high. After all, the C.E.S. goes on for more than those two days...

Jan 8 is the college football National Championsip Game so maybe lots of folks heading to the sports book.

I've never been to the CES but people have told me that it is very busy with thousands of people.

That makes a lot more sense. Thanks for that bit of info.

We're staying from the 3rd through the 5th of January because rates are (or were when I booked) good. When we go to Vegas, I'll plan a few months ahead and look at mid week rates until I find good prices, and then book.

We're going from the 2nd to the 9th and found a good rate for a week-long stay. If I were going for just the 8th and 9th I might be rethinking my plans!
