can anyone tell me if the westward ho is a good hotel for a family? im looking at the 3br apartment because im bringing 4 kids with me i have also looked at circus circus but would have to get 2 rooms. i have family in henderson so most of my time is sight seeing and visiting. What is a good (taste and selection) buffet for parents and kids there very picky and i want somthing halfway edible!!!for under 15.00 a person!!! <BR>thanks, TM fom Florida

The Westward Ho is a dive. I can't believe that they get anything but overflow from the hotels. <BR>If you're going before the end of October stay at a strip hotel. They have elaborate pool facilities that will keep the kids occupied. Circus Circus is probably about $50 per night Sunday thru Thursday and somewhat more on the weekends. <BR> <BR>Remember that there is precious little for the kids to do. They can go swimming or spend a lot of money. Many of the hotels such as Excaliber and Circus have arcades that are similar to those found at state fairs. Adults who play the slots get a little back from time to time. The kids get nothing except worthless nick nacks. We took our daughter there when she was eleven and she would go through 20 bucks in 10 minutes. It's hard to say "that's enough" since there is so little for kids to do. <BR> <BR>Your buffet budget is more than adequate. Most are in the 5 to 10 dollar range. If your kids can't find something to eat there, they must be picky eaters. For sheer variety and reasonable quality, we enjoyed the buffet at the Mirage and Rio. Splurge once and go over to Belagio's buffet, its more expensive but it shows. <BR> <BR>Have a great time.

Tammy, don't let these people stop you from staying at the WH. <BR>It's very convenient, offers what you need and is economical. <BR>After all, few people spend much time in their hotels in Las Vegas. <BR>Go for it!

I have previously read that the Westward Ho would not serve children at their coffee shop. Since you have an automobile, I would recommend leaving the strip and going to locals' casinos for their buffets. Highly recommended are those @ the Orleans, Palace Station (breakfast), Sams Town and Fiesta.

Westward Ho is a very modest property that is clean, but very threadbare. I have read elsewhere that they do not serve children in their coffee shop. Since you have a car, I would recommend going the the buffets in off strip casinos. Highly recommended are Sams Town (Boulder Highway), Palace Station (Sahara), Fiesta (Rancho) and Orleans (Tropicana).

You can get 2 for 1 buffet coupons in the tourist books, for the Sahara, and we found their buffet was better than that of Circus Circus , where we stayed last Feb. <BR> <BR>The Valley of Fire State Park, and Red Rock Canyon would be great for kids to have a run around one afternoon.

thank you for all the polite! post i needed the info because we will only be able to go once for several years,This is our first vacation in seven years i want it to be a good memory, for the kids and a nice visit with family.thanks for the red rock idea i also just noticed there is skiing in the area so maybe we'll include some tobbogining and snow fights!!! thanks again....

Tammy - if you'll be there mid-week, you can get some great deals on the Strip. The Rio has one of the best buffets and Circus Curcus one of the cheapest.

Tammy <BR> <BR>Been to Vegas several times, please... do not stay at the Westward Ho. Oldest,cheapest hotel in Vegas. We have never stayed there, but heard not so nice things about this hotel. Check out Circus-Circus or Imperial Palace (mid-strip hotel) if your looking for something really cheaper. Or else I'd look into New York New York, Rio- each room is a suite, Luxor, MGM... These are nicer hotels not too pricey. Kids would really love New York, New York hotel... That's one of our favorites.. Check them out, sometimes they offer specials!! <BR>Good luck!!

I don't believe there is real skiing in Red Rocks. I don't think I've ever really seen snow in Red Rocks. However, there is a nice ski resort on Mt. Charleston, about a 1 hour drive northwest of the Strip. Your hotel should be able to give you information. Even if you don't go for the skiing, a trip to Mt. Charleston is a nice break from the hectic life of Las Vegas.

I certainly understand the need to save a few bucks. When I was in school, I stayed at all the cheapo places, including the Westward Ho. I cannot recommend it for you. I felt unsafe walking through the dark parking lot to the room. Also, there is nothing at the Ho for kids, unfortunately, and it caters to older folks - there always seem to be busloads of senior citizens wearing name badges there. Don't get me wrong, I personally like it and always stop in the place every visit - the cocktail service is great, but it really seems to not be family-oriented at all. If you're going mid-week, prices are pretty good at some other more kid-friendly places like Circus Circus or Excalibur. <BR> <BR>Stay away from the Circus Circus buffet! It is horrible. <BR> <BR>You will have fun, there is lots of stuff to do in Vegas for families. <BR> <BR>Nancy
